Rail line poses danger to the communities

Wake up, Jamesburg, Monroe and South Brunswick. Please pay close attention to the potential danger coming to our beautiful communities, including the adult communities of Rossmoor, Concordia, Clearbrook, etc.

Didn’t you hear on television and radio how dangerous diesel fuel fumes are to our health, possibly causing lung cancer? Can you imagine 26 passenger trains each way, every day? And don’t forget the freight trains which will still be using the tracks every night.

And if a station is built in Jamesburg, the trains coming into the station more than 50 times a day would be idling and throwing off diesel fumes all over the town as well as the surrounding areas. No one, especially our seniors, needs additional health problems these days.

Let’s also not forget all the cars which will be idling at the railroad crossing more than 50 times a day as well. Each crossing will be closed for more than a minute with the cars backing up and emitting carbon monoxide into the air. Where does it stop?

What about our children and grandchildren? Do you willingly want to expose them to this danger? Why would we let this happen?

Please, let’s get together and stop this insane action. Maybe our senior communities will help us — after all, they beat the Wiz.

      Ruth L. Soden
