Sport Shorts The Middlesex County Over-60 Softball League will hold an organizational meeting at the Old Bridge Library 10 a.m. on Saturday. The 18-Hole Tamarack Women’s Golf Association will be holding its opening meeting on Tuesday at Tamarack Golf Course, 97 Hardenburg Lane, East Brunswick. All returning and prospective members are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. The association is open to women ages 18 and over with a current registration card. The Sharks, a 14-and-under roller hockey team, won a division championship at GoodSports USA, Aberdeen. The team finished the regular season 7-3 and beat the Tigers 7-2 in the championship game. Tom Fisher of Hazlet led the attack with three goals.Mat Calogera of Old Bridge netted two goals and Kyle Mazzei of Aberdeen and Kenny Molloy of Old Bridge rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Also playing for the Sharks are: Michael Goldstein and James Scollo of Manalapan, Mike Albo of Marlboro, Anthony Aupzzo and Sean Karyczak, Vito Passalacqua and goalie Andrew Vento of Old Bridge. The Blue Chip Girls Basketball Shootout will be held at Seton Hall University, South Orange, on Saturday. Registration will be on-site between 8 and 8:30 a.m. with games beginning at 9 a.m. The one-day event is designed for the student athlete who aspires to play at the college level. Each athlete will have the opportunity to compete against quality competition during the NCAA "live" period for college recruiters. Participants will play three games. Players ages 13-17 are sought for competitive interleague play against teams from neighboring towns. Games will be played at night during the week and on some Saturdays. South River Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading registration will be held tomorrow from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the South River High School cafeteria. Registrants must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate, the child’s Social Security Number and a recent wallet-size photo of the child (not a Pop Warner photo). The fees for registering are: one child $55, two children $75 and three or more children $110. In addition a nonrefundable $10 equipment fee will be charged for each child. All fees are due at registration and participants must have a physician’s approval dated in the year 2000 and a final report card submitted by July 31 in order to begin practice. Darren Ankosko of East Brunswick won the inaugural 1,650-yard freestyle in the boys 11-and-12 age group at the New Jersey Junior Olympics swim meet at the Rutgers Aquatic Center, Piscataway. Ankosko won the race with a time of 19:56.94. He also finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle event at the meet with a time of 11:51.69. Raritan Valley Men’s Slo-Pitch Softball League is seeking to add teams for the upcoming season. The league plays nine-inning games with unlimited arc pitching on Sundays at 10:45 a.m in East Brunswick. Play begins in April and the application deadline is April 8. St. Bart’s Buffalos Pop Warner football and cheerleading is now accepting registration for the season beginning Aug. 1. The organization offers flag football for ages 5 and 6, and full uniform football for ages 7-14 up to 145 pounds, and cheerleading for ages 5-14, including tournament competition if desired.The club has teams at five different levels classifying kids by age, skill, and weight. All kids in East Brunswick, Milltown, Rutgers Village and the surrounding areas are welcome. You do not have to be a parishioner to participate. The fee is $70 per individual or $100 per family (if registered by May 26). A payment plan is available and no work bond is required. The team, made up of players from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, is professionally trained and has previously qualified for several national tournaments. The Atlantic Coast Football League is seeking local teams and players from Old Bridge and Sayreville for the Southeast Middlesex Conference spring/summer flag season. Registration is now under way. Games of 8-on-8 will be played locally on Sunday mornings with playoffs ending the season in late June. Registration for those 18 and over is open through late March and the season begins April 2 and ends in late June. The fee for a team entry is $595 and individuals may register for $65.
