German paper-cutting workshop set at museum The Metlar/Bodine House Museum, 1281 River Road, Piscataway, will offer a scherenschnitte (paper-cutting) workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 6. Scherenschnitte originated in China hundreds of years ago. The craft later made its way to Switzerland, Denmark, Poland and then to Germany, where it became a popular way to decorate rooms. German colonists brought the craft to America, where the decorations became common on baptismal and marriage certificates. Its popularity spread, and today, a variety of patterns are available for use as three-dimensional tabletop decorations or in framing. Workshop fee is $30 and includes a light supper and paper-cutting kit. Reservations are requested by Dec. 1. For more information and to reserve, call (732) 463-8363. |
