Many deserve credit for library parking lot

On behalf of the Spotswood Library board of trustees, I would like to publicly draw attention to a remarkable project that has just been completed in Spotswood.

I am referring, of course, to the new, much-expanded and greatly improved parking lot at the library. Thanks to the efforts of our mayor, Barry Zagnit, Borough Administrator Wayne Hamilton, Councilman Howard Keenan and our other Borough Council members, our parking facility has gone from being a poorly patched, curbless wilderness, inadequate for the needs of our patrons, to a well-drained, well-designed, well-executed parking lot, most capable of meeting the needs of our community.

In addition, thanks to the easement that now exists between the library lot and the adjacent Gillette’s Snowhill Plaza, safety and accessibility have been greatly increased.

The staff and trustees of the library appreciate the forbearance that all — not only our patrons but the owners and managers of the neighboring businesses who never once complained that the closure of our lot and the overflow of patrons from our lot to theirs was costing them business — have shown during the difficult construction period. We thank you for your patience and tolerance.

Clearly, the Spotswood government deserves our thanks for a parking lot as well-conceived and well-executed as this. The effort expended on this project, coming so soon after the completion of the new Spotswood municipal building, increases our pride in our community and reminds us all of what a great place Spotswood is to live.

      Mary Faith Chmiel
