With 25 consecutive victories, the regular season Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and Region XIX championships secured, and the No. 1 seed for this weekend More ... The Monroe Stampede, a coed U8 travel team, took second place in the Monroe Tournament this past weekend. In the opening games, the Stampede defeated the Mount Laurel Rockets (2-0) and the Parsippany Revolution (2-0) but fell to the Cohansey Bears team (5-0) in the championship game. Andy Dooley had three goals while Danny Brix chipped in with a goal. Holly Olsen, Sean Doyle, Matt Gandy, and Kevin Brix were credited with assists. Aaron Potter and Kevin Brix played goalie and came up with shutouts in the first two games, while Joey Lefave and Potter split time in goal in the final game. Defensively, Danny Brix, Brian Nale, Jena Pritzlaff, and Gandy had strong games while the mid-field play of Doyle, Kevin Brix, Dooley, Olsen, and Domenic Polidoro helped control the game. Fletcher Markulin, Potter, and Lefave all contributed on the offensive end. More ... The Old Bridge High School softball team faces a daunting week as they look to qualify for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Central Jersey Group IV tourney. More ... A total of 36 students form East Brunswick Taekwondo Center traveled to the 2002 AAU N.J. State Taekwondo Championship in Rockaway. The tournament served as a qualifier for the AAU Taekwondo National Championships to be held in July in Greensboro, N.C. Students from East Brunswick came home with a number of medals from the event. Winning gold medals were John Arnone, Thomas Asciolla, Muralee Balaguru, Phillip Barnes, Carolyn Chu, Charles Ferrone (2), Stephen Gendlek, Florence Kwok, Eric Makarevich, Michael Senft and Nicole Willis (2).
