Sport Shorts The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association’s July 18 outing. The game played was Scotch foursome, averaged handicaps. In first place were Helen Walker and Ellie de la Bandera with 28, followed by Gloria Frock and Marge Quirk (29), Gail Dimaio and Joy Goldstein (30), and Abbey Lorber and Inge Robinson (31). On July 25, when the game played was colored ball — pass ball around to keep its score, the team of Fran Poulin, Ronnie Bohn, Marion Batchelor and Mary Ann Gelsinon won first place with a 35 (match of cards), followed by the team of Madelyn DiMaria, Joan Hoskins, Marian Marshall and Annabelle Donnamaria, who also scored 35. The team of Sandi Sulam, Joan Semen, Inge Robinson and Ellie de la Bandera took third with 36. Ellie de la Bandera had the fewest putts with 15. The Sayreville Athletic Association will be accepting Fall Ball registration for the fall season for boys and girls. The season will begin in September and will end on Oct. 31. The Monroe U13 boys’ travel basketball team moved to 4-0 with two wins this past week in the Freehold summer league. The team was led by the scoring of Mark Gulick and Joe Costa as they combined for 38 points in the two games. Mike Buffolino, Colin Horsch and Vincent Mahmoud also played well, scoring a total of 35 points. Matt Troncone and Kyle Horsch chipped in with 16 points and 22 rebounds, while Dale Santiago and Kevin Synarski added 12 points between them. The Monroe Community Center will be holding a Roller Hockey Summer Camp the week of Aug. 26-30 from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 7-9 (must be 7 by August). The cost is $25 per camper, and checks can be made payable to Monroe Township Roller Hockey. Wrestlers from the Sayreville wrestling program came away with medals and strong finishes this past Saturday at a tournament at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel. High school freshman Shaun Redding finished second at 148 pounds in the Intermediate Division, Michael Bohling took home a third-place award at 50 pounds in the Bantam Division, and Chris Pearson took fourth place at 80 pounds in the Junior Division. Also competing for Sayreville were George Kosonovich who wrestled at 110 in the Intermediate Division, and Scott Poore, who wrestled at 83 pounds in the Junior Division. The East Brunswick Storm, a U14 girls travel soccer club, is holding try outs for girls interested in playing travel soccer in the Mid-New Jersey Girls’ Soccer Conference. The Storm is looking for three to four seasoned players to round out an established travel team. The team will play in both the fall and spring seasons. The Old Bridge Fall Baseball/Softball League is accepting applications for the fall 2002 season. Boys ages 9-16 and girls 10-15 (as of July 31, 2003) are eligible. Fees are $50 for softball and boys age 12 and under, and $65 for boys ages 13 and over. Applications can be obtained at www.leaguelineup.com/obfallball. Old Bridge Fall Baseball/Softball is in its seventh season, with over 600 players last year. The Old Bridge Soccer League Fall Recreation season begins Sept. 7, for a 10-week season. Most games are played Saturdays. Full uniform is supplied. Township residency is not required. Open to all children (boys and girls) who were born on or before July 31, 1998. Furnish proof of age for all new players (i.e., copy of birth certificate). The last two days to register will be June 25 and July 2 from 6-8 p.m. at the fields on Ticetown Road. There will be a $20 late fee for registrations accepted after July 2. Bring two checks made payable to OBSL as shown below: Registering one child, No. 1-$100, No. 2-$75; registering two children, No. 1-$100, No. 2-$120; registering three or more children, No. 1-$100, No. 2-$135. The $100 covers the work bond, which will be returned to you after the completion of your five-hour work obligation. The other amount covers the registration fee and fund-raiser. The fund-raiser is a $30 raffle book per child, with a maximum of two raffle books per family. Only checks will be accepted for tickets sold; stubs should be turned in. The Old Bridge Soccer League provides free soccer training clinics for all players registered to play recreational soccer in Old Bridge. Additional information regarding the clinics can be found on the Web site and can be obtained at the time of registration. The South River Parks and Recreation Department will hold a bus trip to the Trenton Thunder vs. the New Haven Cardinals on Family Fun Night on Aug. 23. It includes pre-game activities for kids. Bus leaves the South River High School parking lot at 5 p.m. sharp. Cost is $10, and includes ticket and bus fare. A trip to Yankee Stadium will be held Aug. 9, when they take on the Oakland Athletics. The bus leaves at 4:30 p.m. sharp. Cost is $40, and includes ticket and bus fare. (Four ticket limit per person.) Children under 16 require a parent or guardian on all trips. Tickets can be purchase by calling the Recreation Office at (732) 254-4412. The department reserves the right to cancel the trips if not enough tickets are sold; money will be returned in full. Make checks payable to Borough of South River. Cash must be the exact amount. The second annual Lancer Boys’ Soccer Camp for boys entering grades 4-9 will be held Aug. 5-9 from 5-8 p.m. at St. John Vianney High School, Line Road, Holmdel. The following programs are being offered at GoodSports in Aberdeen: a youth roller hockey fall league, starting Sept. 7 and 8 for ages 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 19 and under. Register between Aug. 10 and Sept. 4. There are also, recreational leagues for ages 5-8 and 9-12. A summer roller hockey camp for U8 (July 22-26), U10 (July 29-Aug. 2), U12 (Aug. 5-9). Cost is $195 per player. A power skating camp for U10 and U12 will be held Aug. 19-23. Cost is also $195 per player. All camps are from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.. Monday through Friday.
