      The Milltown 11-year-old Central Jersey League basketball team beat Colonia 48-35 behind Tyler Osofsky’s 35 points, including seven three-pointers. Cody Pace added six points, while James Paretti and Nick McConnell added four points each. Milltown is now 2-2.

      After a thrilling overtime win last Tuesday, the Applegarth Mustangs boys’ basketball team visited Carteret and came away with a hard-fought 29-28 loss. After a 0-0 first quarter, the Mustangs outscored Carteret 16-6 behind Mark Gulick’s six points and Colin Horsch’s seven points. The Mustangs were outscored 10-5 in the third, and held a 21-16 lead heading into the final quarter. Carteret took a 27-26 lead, but a James Pellino free throw forced the game into overtime. After a Carteret foul shot, Applegarth’s Christian Hanley hit a foul shot of his own to tie the game. After another Carteret foul shot, the Mustangs lost the game when Gulick’s half-court shot hit the front of the rim as time expired. The Mustangs are now 8-2 with both losses coming by one point. In the fifth quarter jayvee game, the Mustangs won 8-6 behind Vincent Samill’s four points.

      A men’s 28-and-over baseball league is seeking players. Games are played on Sunday mornings at fields located throughout central New Jersey. The season starts on April 6. For more information, call (917) 647-9189, or (718) 850-7290, ext. 1135.

      The East Brunswick Jewish Center’s fifth- and sixth-grade basketball teams won championship honors in a recent winter holiday tournament. The tournament was held at the center. The tournament included teams from Marlboro, Scotch Plains and St. Bart’s parish. EBJC first played Scotch Plains and came away with a 41-27 win. EBJC then beat St. Bart’s parish in a come-from-behind 22-21 win. EBJC team members are Evan Friedman, Zack Kleinbart, Matt Koller, Zack Meller, Craig Pollack, Brett Scharf, David Swissman, Robby Tepper, David Weber and Mike Zinberg. Team coaches are Steve Meller, Steve Swissman and Rich Weber.

      The Monroe Township Girls’ Softball Association will hold registration tonight and Feb. 3 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Monroe Community Center. The league is for girls ages 5-18. Cost is $75 for the first child, $65 for any additional children. Registration made after Feb. 3 will be charged a $25 late fee. No work bond is required.       The East Brunswick Baseball League will hold registration for the spring 2003 baseball and softball season on Jan. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Feb. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Feb. 6, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will be held in Managers Hall at the league’s complex on Dunhams Corner Road. Baseball eligibility is from ages 5 to 15 (must be age 5 by July 31, 2003). Players registering for softball must be age 5 by Nov. 1, 2002. Buddy Ball (for players who are physically challenged) accepts players ages 5 to 18 — must be age 5 by April 5, 2003. Registration is $80 for baseball for ages 12 and under and for all softball. Baseball for ages 13 and over is $95. Additional family members are $40. Registration for Buddy Ball is $30 per family. A separate snack bar work bond of $50 and a uniform bond of $35, both of which are refundable, will be collected at a later date by the team manager. Returned checks will be assessed a fee of $25. There will be a late fee of $35 after Feb. 8, no exceptions. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. Buddy Ball players must also bring a copy of their IEP. Please note that there will be no mail-in registration this year.
