      South Jersey Region of Hadassah sets women’s education symposium

      The Southern New Jersey Region of Hadassah, in cooperation with the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, will present a two-day women’s spring education symposium, "One People, One World," on March 19 and 20 in the Douglass College Center of Rutgers University, New Brunswick.

      The first session will begin at 7 p.m. on March 19 with registration, dessert and coffee. Noted author Letty Cottin Pogrebin will deliver the keynote address at 8 p.m. A co-founder of Ms. magazine and the National Political Caucus, Pogrebin is the author of nine books including Deborah, Golda and Me, Being Jewish in America and Three Daughters: A Novel.

      The all-day March 20 session will get under way at 9 a.m. with registration, a continental breakfast and orientation. Participants may choose to attend two workshops in the morning. Topics will include "Coping With Interfaith Marriage" with Dr. Carol Diament; "Jews in Films" with Dr. Eric Goldman; "The People and the Book: 4,000 Years of Jewish History," a multimedia presentation by Dr. Arthur Kron, curator of the Judaica collection at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; and "Learning to Love the Body You Have" with Dr. Judith Ruskay Rabinor, author of A Starving Madness.

      A kosher lunch will be served at noon. Professor Gil Troy of McGill University, Montreal, Canada, will offer the day’s keynote address, "Why I Am A Zionist."

      Afternoon activities will start at 1:15 p.m. Workshops will include "Two Faces of Islam: The House of Sáaud From Tradition to Terror" with journalist/author Stephen Schwartz; "Discerning Your Roots" with Gary Mokotoff, a past president of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies; "Sisters at Sinai: New Tales of Biblical Women" with Rabbi Jill Hammer; "Israeli Film" with Dr. Eric Goldman; and "Pray Tell" with Dr. Carol Diament.

      Cost for the two-day event is $50; March 19 evening session only, $18; March 20 daytime only, $36. The public is welcome. Admission may be applied to a first-time Hadassah membership. For information, call (732) 643-1109.
