      The East Brunswick Boys’ Basketball Booster Club will be running a basketball tournament June 6-8 at East Brunswick High School. There are three separate age divisions, high school boys (17U), high school girls (17U), and a boys youth (12U). The cost is $300, with a guarantee of three games and a fourth game for the pool winners.       The Goodwill Ambassadors are accepting applications for high school volleyball teams, club teams and individual high school-age volleyball players, to participate in the Goodwill Ambassadors Volleyball exchange to Europe in July 2004. Members of this team will represent their country and community as Goodwill Ambassadors in volleyball tournaments and local competitions in London, Paris, Geneva, Venice and Rome. The program is open to all players ages 15-20. Players are encouraged to register early. For high school coaches and club team coaches, the coach travels free with their team of 10 or more.       Fast Break Basketball Association Inc., a nonprofit youth basketball program for boys and girls in East Brunswick run by volunteers, is holding registration for children in grades 2-8 on June 14 from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. at the Hammarskjold School cafeteria in East Brunswick. The cost is $80 per child. Registration will be in-person only. Mail-in registrations will be accepted after June 14. Registrations mailed before June 14 will be returned to sender. To register, obtain a packet at www.fastbreak.org, print it out, and fill it out prior to coming to the registration.       The Monroe Magic U13 girls’ soccer team defeated the Watchung Hills Strikers, 5-2. In a scoring frenzy, Alanna Carr scored solo, assisted by Kelsey Schobert, assisted by Leah Scarpetti, and assisted by Lisa Riccobene. The Magic’s fifth goal was scored by Kelsey Schobert assisted by Lisa Riccobene. Monica Polick, Nicole Ragucci and Allison Arnold played tight defense backed up by Kacie Manzo in the goal.

      Sue Westock and Alyssa Gioino each had a goal and an assist to lead the U14 Cranbury Cyclones girls’ soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Scotch Plains. Katie Burke also tallied while Alessandra Mercuro was credited with an assist. Leslie Hankins and Danica Presepe had strong games in midfield while Katie Lindberg and Stephanie Grubb were solid in the defensive end. In a slugfest, the Cyclones dropped a 5-3 decision to Readington. Emily Kotowski had a goal and an assist for the Cyclones. Sue Westock and Danielle Cokeley also scored while Alyssa Gioino had two assists. After being behind by three goals at halftime, the Cyclones fought back to within 4-3 but could not get the equalizer. A late goal by Readington sealed the victory.

      The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s Golf Association’s May 13 outing. The game played was Nassau — 100 percent handicap. In Flight A, the low net winner was Rita Reisert with 73, while Ann Lin won the front nine with 37, Chung Hee Lee won the back nine with 36, and Muriel Feniello had low putts with 34. Kelly Guariglia had low net in Flight B with 75, while Dot Wright won the front nine with 37, Ellie de la Bandera won the back nine with 38, and Linda Weintraub had low putts with 34. Helen Jo had low net in Flight C with 76, while Dot Terringer won the front nine with 36, Terry Massaro won the back nine with 40 and Jean Ertle had low putts with 36.

      The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association’s May 15 outing. The game played was stroke play — 100 percent handicap. Joan Hoskins won the A Flight with a 34, followed by Edythe Gutman (35), Marge Widder (36) and Terry Massaro (39). Dot Peters won Flight B with a 33, followed by Jeanne Reaph (36), Marge Wukitsch (36) and Madelyne DiMaria (37). Jeannette Squires won the C Flight with a 32, followed by Helen Michna (35), Gloria Frock (35) an Ronnie Bohn (41). Gutman had fewest putts with 13.

      The Monroe Township Baseball Association will hold its annual end of year picnic at James Monroe Park on June 21 (rain date June 22) from noon to 4 p.m. Highlights of this event include trophy presentations for the Buddy Ball, Farm Rookie, and Farm AAA Divisions, a live DJ, amusements such as Moon Walker, rock climbing, and a giant slide, and more. Players and parents can also try their skill at the pitching, quarterback, and soccer skills booths, as well as at our $1 dunk tank. Coaches will square off against one another in the coaches vs. coaches softball game to be held on the Pony Field at 2 p.m. And immediately following the picnic at 4 p.m., the Monroe Township Baseball Association Farm League Rookie In-Town All Star Selections for 2003 will square off against one another in our first-ever Farm League Rookie All-Star Game. Players selected by their coaches and managers will play in the event, which will feature the 7-year-old instructional division, where games are played using pitching machines to enhance confidence and player development. The picnic is free to all registered MTBA players. Other guests (parents, siblings, etc.) will pay only $10 each, (limited to family members, please). Tickets must be purchased in advance; there will be no tickets sold at the door on the day of the event. Team parents will distribute all ticket information this week.       CNJ United, a fall 2003-spring 2004 U13 boys’ Premier travel soccer team, will be conducting tryouts for the 2003/2004 season. CNJ United currently competes in the Mid New Jersey Youth Soccer Association in the Premier flight and other competitive tournaments as a U12 boys’ team. The team is currently comprised of players from the various communities of Middlesex County. The tryouts will take place on May 30, June 8 and June 13, at the Middlesex Vocational High School in East Brunswick from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In order to be considered for selection to the 2003-04 roster, there is a team requirement that a player must attend at least one tryout date.
