      Be-Bop Cruisers to hold
      July 13 benefit car show

      The Be-Bop Cruisers, a 150-member classic car club, will hold its 10th annual benefit car show from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 13 at Freehold Raceway, Route 9. Rain date is July 20.

      The family-oriented event will feature more than 300 antique and classic cars from the tri-state area.

      Proceeds will benefit the Middlesex County Child Assault Prevention Project (CAP).

      Sponsors and ads are sought. Businesses are invited to donate a trophy or have their name printed on a T-shirt to be distributed at the show.

      Shakespeare classics

      to be staged at library

      The Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, will present the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s next stage eNSEmble touring production of Love’s Labour Lost at 2 p.m. on July 12. The NSE company will return to the library at 2 p.m. on July 26 to offer its presentation of Antigone.

      Free tickets for the one-hour adaptations of the classic plays will be available at the library circulation desk beginning July 1. The public is welcome to attend the performances.

      The next stage eNSEmble, now in its 11th year, was created as part of the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Summer Professional Training Program in order to foster the work of early-career actors and directors. NSE upholds the Shakespearean tradition of a traveling company of actors bringing its repertoire into the community.

      Monroe and Jamesburg

      to hold July Fourth gala

      The Monroe Township Recreation Department and the Jamesburg Civic Association will co-sponsor their annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration starting at 5 p.m. on July 4 at Thompson Park, Monroe. Rain date is July 5. The event will feature refreshments, entertainment, honored guests and an evening fireworks display.

      Chinese comedy-drama

      to open library film fest

      The 21st Summer International Film Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will open July 1 with 1:30 and 8 p.m. screenings of the Chinese comedy-drama Happy Times. The festival will continue every Wednesday through Aug. 5. Films will be shown in their original languages with English subtitles as needed. Admission is free of charge. Reservations are not required.

      The complete festival schedule is as follows:

      • July 1 — Happy Times, Mandarin, 2002, 96 minutes, rated PG;

      • July 8 — Kandahar, English and Farsi, 2001, 85 minutes, not rated;

      • July 15 — The Son’s Room, Italian, 2001, 98 minutes, rated R;

      • July 22 — Same Old Song, French, 1998, 120 minutes, rated R;

      • July 29 — Nine Queens, Spanish, 2002, 115 minutes, rated R;

      • Aug. 5 — Beijing Bicycle, Mandarin, 2002, 113 minutes, rated PG-13.

      The film festival is sponsored by the Friends of the East Brunswick Public Library.
