Assembly members should focus on Jamesburg’s schools

When I heard that our school taxes here in Jamesburg were to increase by an average of $500 this year (the highest increase in all of Middlesex County), I thought for sure that last year’s school crisis would be a thing of the past.

But now I read that four more teachers and our superintendent of schools are leaving Jamesburg. Add the four that were laid off last year, and you can see that Jamesburg has a serious, growing problem on its hands.

If we’re paying more and more in local school taxes — with worsening results — it’s clear that Jamesburg’s children aren’t getting the support from the state they deserve.

What can we do to fix the problem?

How about telling our Assembly representatives, Linda Greenstein and Gary Guear, that voting to spend $350 million for a sports arena in Newark is hurting our kids?

How about explaining to Greenstein and Guear that their focus in the state Assembly should be on the kids here in Jamesburg, our kids, and not on Newark?

Greenstein and Guear need to be as committed to the kids of Jamesburg as the rest of us here are.
