Sport Shorts FARRAH MAFFAI South River’s Bryan Laughery fires a pitch during an American Legion game against South Brunswick in South River on Tuesday.
The East Brunswick Galaxy U7 tournament team had an outstanding season this spring. They participated in various tournaments in Manalapan, East Brunswick, and the Sayreville Summer Classic. As the year progressed, so did their skill level. They ended the season by sweeping their division at the Sayreville Summer Classic on June 27, 28 and 29, racking up four wins and no losses against strong teams from Scotch Plains, Sayreville and Manalapan. The Galaxy team members are: Gary Baumer, Joey Bierman, Justin Danatos, Joseph Grekoski, Joey Gudzak, Kryollos Hanna, Evan Louro, David Margulies, Sean Mulhollem, Sam Pavelchak, Brandon Santos, Alex Stelicos, Amir Taree, and Raphael Zonis, with guest player Christian Chlan. The Galaxy team is coached by Alan Pavelchak, assisted by John Santos and Gary Baumer. In the fall, the Galaxy will be competing in the Mid-New Jersey Travel League. The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association’s July 3 outing. The game played was stroke play, full handicap. Joyce Nicolaison took first with a 38, followed by Inge Robinson (40 — match of cards), Marge Widder (40) and Diane Del Masto (40). Edythe Gutman, Robinson and Dot Peters had the fewest putts with 16. The East Brunswick Tsunami, an U11 girls’ travel soccer team, completed their spring season with a 6-4-0 record, finishing in second place in the Mid New Jersey Youth Soccer League Flight 5. The Tsunami midfield was powered by Amanda Ogen, Alexis Wojtowicz, Colleen Murphy and Olivia Lawnick. The attack was led by Jessica Caridi, Jamie LaGattuta, Romina Reversi, Sabrina Barik, Rosa Buffolino and Marisa Silvers. The defense led the flight in fewest goals allowed, due to the tenacity and speed of Emily Fusco, Tori Guen, Sierra Rauchbach, Gianna Cordasco and Hanna Wasserman. The team was coached by Leo Guen, Matty Cordasco and Karen Allen-Guen, and was trained by Ricardo Carrion. Matty Cordasco will be head coach of the U12 Tsunami. The Monroe Township U10 girls’ softball team remained undefeated in the Millennium Girls Softball League, with an 8-4 win at home on Tuesday over the Manalapan Belles. Courtney Baron continued her hot hitting with a three-run home run in the first inning, and an RBI triple in the third. She leads the club with 17 RBIs and is hitting .524 for the season. Jenna Giaquinto tripled in the third inning, knocking in a run. Also picking up RBIs were Brianna Davidson, Elaina Hansen and Tricia Powell. Brittany Scott pitched a complete game, giving up just two hits while striking out 15. Erica Beyer left the game after being hit with a pitch in the third inning, and is listed day-to-day. URASTAR Softball Summer Camp, hosted by Cheesequake Baseball and Deanna Vecchio (graduate of Old Bridge High School and a four-time All-North East Conference player) will be held July 21-24 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for ages 11-18.
