Obituaries JOSEPH CANNICI, 87, of East Brunswick died Aug. 20 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and a Distinguished Unit Badge with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, East Brunswick. He was predeceased by five brothers, and two sisters. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Fanny Capitumino Cannici of East Brunswick; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elise and Ted Grosch of Marlboro, Kathy and Matthew Brown of East Brunswick, and Anita and Joseph Sciarrotta of Davie, Fla.; his sister, Minnie DeLuca of Sunrise, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be Aug. 22 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick. A funeral service will be held Aug. 23 at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, East Brunswick. JAMES THEODORE WALKER, 82, of East Brunswick died Aug. 19 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Mr. Walker served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, East Brunswick. His first wife, Margaret K. Walker, died in 1985. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Helen Pikul Walker; a son and daughter-in-law, James Scott Walker and Adrianne Spota of Marlboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin Susan and Ronald Taylor of Dallas; four stepchildren; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be Aug. 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick. ELLEN WINANT APPLEGATE, 86, of Sayreville died Aug. 17 at Manor Care Health Center, Urbana, Ill. She was a member of Sayreville First Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Applegate, in 1992. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Carol Applegate of Milltown, and Vernon E. and Judie Applegate of Hampton, Va.; her daughter, Dianne Applegate of Savoy, Ill.; her brother, Harvey Winant of East Brunswick; her sister, Marie Grodzki of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum, Franklin. RHODES De LEO, 77, of Monroe died Aug. 18 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Mrs. De Leo was a communicant of Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Monroe. She was a member and past president of Our Lady of Victories Council No. 2061 Columbiettes, the Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Rhodes. Mrs. De Leo is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ernest M. De Leo; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Ken Olivier of Toms River; three sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Theresa De Leo of Brick, Michael and Dee De Leo of Keansburg, and Stephen and Patricia De Leo of South Amboy; a sister, Joyce Riddick of Aiken, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. EDITH DART QUINN, 74, of Spotswood died Aug. 17 at home. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church, Sayreville. She was predeceased by her husband, James Quinn, in 1996. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, James and Mary Quinn Jr. of Sayreville, and Robert Quinn of Spotswood; and two granddaughters. A funeral service will be held Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville. JANET RHEA DuBOIS GRANT, 83, of East Brunswick died Aug. 12 at home. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Milltown. Her husband of 60 years, Orland Grant, predeceased her. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Keith Harmis of Metuchen; and one grandson. Entombment was at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. EUGENE WIEDERKEHR, 63, of North Carolina and formerly East Brunswick, died Aug. 13 at Belhaven Hospital, Englehart, N.C. Surviving are three sons, Craig Wiederkehr and Eugene Wiederkehr, both of North Carolina, and Darryl Wiederkehr of Texas; and a sister, Nancy Wiederkehr of Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. JOHN W. "BILL" WORTH SR., 76 of Milltown died Aug. 15 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was also a Merchant Marine. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lillian "Bunny" Billings Wroth of Milltown; three daughters, Sharon Presley of Dallas, Valerie Noe of Greenwood, Ariz., and Patricia Barlok of Port Murray; a son, John Worth Jr. of Milltown; a brother, Edward Worth of Stuart, Fla.; and five grandchildren. DROGAN GUNIA of East Brunswick died Aug. 16 at home. She was a member of St. Mary of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church, South River. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Gunia in 1980; two brothers, Frank and John Drogan; and three sisters, Irene Palumbo, Nellie Baranowski and Anna Muraszko. Burial was at St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Cemetery, Sayreville. GEORGE MASS, 83, of Monroe died Aug. 18 at University Medical Center at Princeton. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Trachtman Mass of Monroe; a son, Allen Mass of Bedminster; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Alan Levitt of Skillman; a sister, Sara Redleaf of Long Island, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. AUDOLIA "AIDA" KOSABUTSKI, 88, of South River died Aug. 11 at the Barbara E. Cheung Hospice, Edison. She was predeceased by her husband, Maisei Kosabutski. Surviving are her children, Adam Kosabutski and Wassail Kosabutski, both of South River; Ewgenia Gallagher of East Brunswick; Anna Holman of North Carolina; Nina McNamee of Spring Valley; Maria Cardone of Point Pleasant; and John Kosabutski of Fair Lawn; 18 children and nine great-grandchildren. TAYLOR JR., 72, of Florida, formerly of East Brunswick and Old Bridge, died Aug. 11 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Giangrasso Taylor; a son, William Taylor of Cream Ridge; two daughters, Janice Taylor of North Brunswick and Jayne O’Connell of Safety Harbor, Fla.; and six grandchildren. PATRICIA SCHWIND HORN, 73, of East Brunswick died Aug. 8 in Cranbury Care Center, Monroe. Surviving are her husband, Ernest H. Horn; three sons, Christopher Horn of the Bronx, N.Y., William Horn of Garnerville, N.Y., and Charles Horn of the Skillman section of Montgomery; three daughters, Patricia Fitzgerald of Old Bridge, Donna Horn of Lake Hopatcong and Suzanne Horn of East Brunswick; four sisters, Doris Arnau, Emily Bradley, Elizabeth Arnau and Eileen Heinrich; and 12 grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick. THERESA A. NOWAK ROMER, 49, of Jackson, formerly of South Amboy and Old Bridge, died Aug. 9 in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was employed as a security guard for Securitas, Monroe, for the past eight years. Her husband, Kenneth C. Romer, died in 1986. Surviving are two daughters, Michelle Romer of the Avenel section of Woodbridge and Kristine Romer of Jackson; her parents, John F. Sr. and Marion Lesnick Nowak of South Amboy; and her mother-in-law, Francine Romer of Spotswood. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sayreville. |
