Jewelry, photography exhibits on display at library

Handmade jewelry by East Brunswick resident Kay Schamberger is on display during August in the glass cases at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center. Photography by East Brunswick resident Rochelle Kapel is exhibited on the walls.

The centerpiece of Schamberger’s display is her array of handcrafted necklaces made from knotted pearl, strung beads, sterling silver, gold, natural stone and pearls, among other favorite materials. Also included are beaded amulet bags with peyote and brick stitching, tools and materials used in creating jewelry and an original canvas piece titled "A Stone in the Crossroad," which combines fiber, beadwork and natural stone. Schamberger is a member of the New Jersey Bead Society, the Embroiderers Guild of America and the American Needlepoint Guild.

Kapel’s photography exhibit features images of the natural world — tree branches, leaves, forest scenes and the sky. Taken over the past 15 years, her color photos serve as a guide to the many places she has visited: France; the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee; the Adirondacks; Pennsylvania; California; Colorado; Vermont; her native New York City; and her home for the last four years, East Brunswick.
