      HERBERT GROVER, 77, of Spotswood died Sept. 5 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was predeceased by a son, Robert. Surviving are his wife, LaVerne Conover Grover; four sons, Herbert of South River, Thomas of Ashland, Mass., Jack of Milltown and Charles of Helmetta; two daughters, Sharon McGlynn of Helmetta and Mary Popielarski of East Windsor; two sisters, Mildred Boley of Sayreville and Carol Hoyda of the Fords section of Woodbridge; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.

      EKRAM F. MANKABADI, 68, of Piscataway died Sept. 2 in JFK Medical Center, Edison. A daughter, Shirley Mankabadi, died in 2002. Surviving are his wife, Mary Mikhail Mankabadi; a son, Paul of Piscataway; a daughter, Nancy, also of Piscataway; a brother, Fayaz Mankabadi of Egypt; four sisters, Marsel Mankabadi and Annhar Mankabadi, both of Jersey City, and Evan Mankabadi and Ibtesam Mankabadi, both of Boston. Services were held at St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick.

      MICHAEL J. MURPHY, 72, of East Brunswick died Sept. 4 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Corinne Beissig Murphy; a son, Robert of East Brunswick; two daughters, Maureen of Flemington and Lynn of Guttenberg; his mother, Mary O’Neill Murphy of Staten Island, N.Y.; a brother, James of Matawan; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 846 Main St., Fords, NJ 08863, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 100, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552.

      MARION A. BOWERS COLLINS, 66, of East Brunswick died Sept. 3 at home. Her husband, James, died in 2000. Surviving are four sons, James Collins Jr. of East Brunswick, William and John O’Brien, both of Newport Beach, Calif., and Robert O’Brien of the Parlin section of Sayreville; two daughters, Christine Nardin of East Brunswick and Elizabeth Walsh of Howell; and three grand­children. A service was held at Nativity of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.

      SAMI ZAKI, 77, of East Brunswick died Aug. 27 in Madison Care Center, Old Bridge. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was an ac­countant for three years at Sunshine Biscuit, Sayreville. His wife, Claire S. Guirguis Zaki, died in 2002. Surviving are a son, Hani of Lansdale, Pa.; two brothers, Samir of Boston and Dr. F. George Zaki of East Brunswick; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 626, East Brunswick, NJ 08816, or to the American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.

      EDMUND "PAT" ZONKOWSKI, 79, of Sayreville died Sept. 1 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are a sis­ter, Beatrice Cseh Raab of East Brunswick, with whom he lived, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment was in the church cemetery.

      WILLIAM M. SCUPP JR., 76, of New Brunswick, formerly of South River, died Sept. 5 in Old Bridge Manor. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was a machine operator for 42 years with E.I. DuPont, Parlin section of Sayreville. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Holsworth Scupp; two sons, Glenn and Greg, both of Sayreville; two sisters, Dolores Myers and Eleanor Sears, both of South River; and a grandson. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South River. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover.

      RICHARD L. LEWICKI, 63, of Aberdeen died Sept. 8 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of the Matawan and Aberdeen area. He was a fleet manager at Island Trans­portation, Port Reading, the past year. Prior to that, he worked at Amoco Oil Co., Inwood Terminal, N.Y. He served with the U.S. Army dur­ing peacetime. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. He was a fireman at Matawan Township Hose and Chemical. He was president of Petroleum Trades Employee Union for 20 years. He was prede­ceased by his father, Francis Lewicki. He is sur­vived by his wife, Judy Turner Lewicki of Ab­erdeen; his mother, Nancy Nigro Lewicki of Cali­fornia; his daughter, Sheri Ahearn of Eatontown; his brother, Robert Lewicki of Old Bridge; and one granddaughter.

      ROBERT F. JANIS, 64, of Monroe, formerly of Spotswood, died Sept. 7 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are two daughters, Tracey McCarthy of South Plainfield and Kelly Richardson of Plumsted; two sons, Scott Janis of New York and Christian R. Janis of New Brunswick; three brothers, Raymond Janis of Tennessee, Ronald Janis of Clark and Richard Janis of Florida; a sister, Patricia DeGuttis of Tuckerton; and two grandchildren. Visitation is set for 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood. Services are planned for 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 846 Main St., Fords, NJ 08863.
