      Parents Without Partners Chapter No. 236 will hold an open dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 26 at the East Brunswick Elks Club, Hardenburg Lane. Admission is $8 for nonmembers, $6 for members. An orientation for prospective members will be held at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call (732) 602-8800.

      Nicotine Anonymous

      holds weekly meetings

      Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-step program to help individuals gain freedom from nicotine, holds meetings at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays at Centenary Methodist Church, 200 Hillside Ave., Metuchen, and at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at Mortgage Money Mart, Tano Mall, 1199 Amboy Ave., Edison.

      There are no dues or fees.

      Adoption conference

      to be held on Nov. 1

      Concerned Persons for Adoption will hold New Jersey’s 22nd annual "Let’s Talk adoption" conference, Saturday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The event will be held at Rutgers University’s Busch Campus Center, Piscataway, and is intended for prospective and current adoptive parents, social workers, adoptees, birth parents and child welfare professionals.

      This year’s "Let’s Talk Adoption" is sponsored by Concerned Persons for Adoption, the N.J. Interagency

      Adoption Council, and Rutgers University School of Social Work. Keynote speaker will be Susan Soon-keum Cox of Holt International Children’s Services, Oregon.

      Registration is necessary, and costs $35 per person, $60 per couple up to Oct. 15, and $40 per person, $70 per couple after Oct. 15.
