Sports Shorts Registration is being accepted for the Old Bridge winter ice hockey youth instructional program, sponsored by the township Department of Parks, Recreation & Social Services. The program will be held Sunday evenings, beginning Jan. 4, at the Old Bridge Sports Arena. Youngsters will be instructed on the fundamentals of hockey, including stick handling, passing and shooting. Participants are required to wear full equipment. The sessions are broken into two age groups: 5-8 years old and 9-13. The 5-8 group runs from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the older group runs from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $226 for Old Bridge residents and $276 for nonresidents. The Monroe Township Baseball Association will hold registration for spring baseball on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Monroe Township Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road. The registration fee will remain at $75 per player, $65 for each additional player per family, and a $50 work bond per family. Please note that any registration received after Dec. 9 will be $85 per player, $75 for each additional player. The work-bond requirement is six hours per family for all divisions except Buddy ball. Buddy Ball volunteers must complete three hours of volunteer activities for the Association. Divisions of play for the 2004 season are Buddy Ball for ages 5 and 6 (T-ball); Farm League Rookie Division for age 7 (instructional with pitching machine); Minor League for ages 9 and 10; Major League for ages 11 and 12; Junior League for age 13; and Senior League for ages 14, 15 and 16. Members of the Middlesex Gymnastics Academy’s USAG girls team captured numerous honors at the Rutgers Classic Invitational, held Nov. 21-23 at Rutgers University. Teams from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania competed in the three-day event. Middlesex Gymnastics Level 4 girls won the first-place team trophy with two girls — Gabby Dutra-Clark, 8, of Metuchen, and Alyson Dohn, 9, of North Brunswick — taking first place all-around honors in their age groups. The Level 5 girls from Middlesex Gymnastics placed second in the team standings with one girl — Asya Cureton, 9, of Piscataway — finishing first in her age group. Kaitlyn Loeffler, 11, of East Brunswick placed second in the AA in Level 7, while wining two first-place awards in individual events. Dutra-Clark took the all-around title after winning the vault (9.75), uneven bars (9.225) and floor exercise (9.3), while finishing second on the beam (9.1). Meanwhile, Dohn won her AA title by taking first on the beam (9.45), third on the vault (9.4) and floor (9.0), and fourth on the bars (8.8). Nicole Razzano, of East Brunswick, took third in the Level 4 all-around with a score of 35.775 after finishing first on the beam (9.125) and second on the bars (8.9) and floor (8.75) in the 8-year-old group. Shelby Vertes, of Piscataway, was fifth in the AA (35.05) with a second on the beam (8.8) and third on the bars (8.85) in the 9-year-old group. In Level 5 competition, Caitlin Selva, 8, of East Brunswick, finished sixth in the AA with a second-place finish on the floor (9.025). In the 9-year-old age group, Cureton was first in the AA (36.65) while taking individual first-place honors on the floor (9.475) and vault (9.825). Breanna McGowan, Milltown, was sixth in the AA with fourth-place finishes in both the vault and beam. Brianne Strahm, also of Milltown, finished 14th in the AA with a ninth on the beam. In the 10-year-old group, Meghan Larkin, of South River, finished second in the AA (37.25), while taking first on the beam (9.45) and floor (9.5). Melody Smith, of South Amboy, came in fifth in the AA with a second on the floor (9.35) and third on the bars (9.25). Amoi Green, of Piscataway, placed ninth in the AA with an eighth on the vault. Kristen McMullen, Milltown, finished 13th in the AA with a third-place finish on the beam (9.2) and a fifth on the floor. In Level 7 competition, Loeffler placed second in the AA (36.4) while taking first on the vault (9.55) and floor (8.95) in the 11-year-old age group. The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association’s Sept. 18 outing. The game played was favorite holes (choose four holes whose pars total 16), half handicap. Joan Hoskins won the A Flight with a 15, followed by Marge Quirk (15.5), Mary Ann Gelsinon (16) and Annabelle Donnamaria (19). Joan Semen won the B Flight with 10.5, followed by Sally Hindes (13.5), Dot Peters (14.5) and Doris Colgrove (17). Ronnie Bohn won the C Flight with 14.5, followed by Helen Walker (21), Joyce Nicolaison (22.5) and Helen Michna (27.5). Marge Quirk and Dot Peters had fewest putts of 17. At the Sept. 25 outing, the game played was throw outs — throw out your worst three holes, half handicap. Marge Widder won the A Flight with 22, followed by Dot Terringer (26), Barbara Chudowski (26) and Alice Rich (27). Bobbi Block won the B Flight with 22, followed by Marion Batchelor (23), Dot Peters (24) and Rosanne Marosy (26). Doris Colgrove won the C Flight with 21, followed by Madelyne DiMaria (26), Mary Thompson (26) and Florence Margulies (28). Bobbi Block and Dot Peters had fewest putts of 16. At the Oct. 2 outing, the game played was Best Ball — team of two, 80 percent handicap. Marion Batchelor and Florence Margulies took first with a score of 37, followed by Inge Robinson and Rosanne Marosy (40), Sally Hindes and Dot Peters (42), and Bobbie Block and Alice Rich (42). Marge Widder, Dot Peters and Linda Pitone had fewest putts of 17. At the Oct. 16 outing, the game played was stroke play, full handicap. Inge Robinson won the A flight with 34, followed y Marge Widder (35), Joan Semen (37) and Annabelle Donnamaria (38). Jean Ertle won the B Flight with 40, followed by Marion Batchelor (41), Sally Hindus (42) and Gail DiMaio (48). Linda Pitone won the C Flight with 35, followed by Joyce Nicolaison (37), Madelyne DiMaria (38) and Jeanette Squires (39). Sandi Sulam had fewest putts with 15. The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association’s Oct. 23 outing. The game played was stroke play, full handicap.
