      Bicycle Rodeo slated for
      May 22 in South River

      The South River Police Department (SRPD), in conjunction with Ecko Unlimited and SRPD Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local No. 62, will hold a Bicycle Rodeo beginning at 9 a.m. on May 22 at South River High School, Montgomery Street. The event is open to all borough students and children. Rain date is May 23.

      Youngsters are not required to bring a bicycle in order to participate, but those who bring bikes must wear a helmet. A bicycle safety inspection will be conducted by Planet Bike, East Brunswick.

      There will be a visit by the New Jersey State Police NorthSTAR Helicopter and the Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team (SORT).

      Door prizes, including bicycles, helmets and bike accessories, will be awarded. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will be available to participants.

      The South River Police Department, in cooperation with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department, will conduct a fingerprint and file program at South River Middle School, Montgomery Street, during the rodeo. Borough children will be fingerprinted, and the fingerprints will be provided on a file card for parents to keep in case of an emergency.

      Units from the South River Fire Department, Rescue Squad and Emergency Management will join police and emergency medical bicycle units from towns throughout the state to provide equipment demonstrations. Several DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) vehicles from neighboring police departments will be on display.

      Villagers Theatre

      to stage ‘My Fair Lady’

      Villagers Theatre, a nonprofit center for the performing and cultural arts, will present its production of "My Fair Lady," the Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe musical, at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays, June 4-27, on the theater’s main stage, 415 DeMott Ave., Somerset seciton of Franklin.

      Tickets cost $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and students.

      to sponsor car wash

      The East Brunswick Youth Council will hold a car wash from noon to 4 p.m. on May 22 in the parking lot at Central School, 371 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.

      Cost is $5 for cars, $7 for vans.
