Dangerous intersection needs to be scrutinized

I hope that this letter to the editor raises awareness about a particular intersection in Old Bridge. I believe a problem exists, as described here.

When a vehicle on Route 18 north awaits a red arrow to turn left onto Maple Street west, it seems that the southbound traffic approaching the intersection either still has the green (because of mechanical error) or cannot see the red light (possibly because of a misplaced signal light).

On several occasions the southbound vehicles have entered the intersection and collided into the right side of the left-turning vehicles.

I know of several incidents that provide evidence that this dangerous situation exists. My daughter was involved in an accident while simply making that left turn, as was the father of one of her friends and a friend of my personal trainer.

It seems too much of a coincidence that so many similar incidents occurred at the same location, in the same way, and in such a short period of time.

I hope this note helps to bring this issue under scrutiny by the appropriate agency.
