      Alumni sought for 50-year class reunion

    • ‘Boas and Pythons’

      coming to Cheesequake

      Special guest Gerry Wronski will offer a program titled “Gerry’s World of Boas and Pythons” beginning at 1 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the Cheesequake State Park Interpretive Center, 300 Gordon Road, Old Bridge.

      Wronski will discuss the reptiles and provide examples.

      The program is open to all ages. Admission is free of charge.

      Applications now taken for VSA/NJ awards

      The nonprofit VSA arts of New Jersey (VSA/NJ), New Brunswick, is accepting applications for the 2005 Arts Achievement Awards and “Art Par Excellence” statewide touring exhibit.

      The achievement awards include the Student Arts Excellence Awards and Education in the Arts Awards. Deadline for application is Jan. 7.

      dThe excellence awards are given to students age 14-21 with disabilities that are classified (mainstreamed, inclusion, self-contained classes or activities). Students must not exceed the grade 12 level and must show outstanding achievement in and commitment to an art form.

      The Education in the Arts Awards are given to outstanding educators and administrators that establish high-quality arts programs for classified students. The awards also honor individuals that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to arts education for classified students. Recipients also become candidates for the New Jersey Governor’s Awards in Arts Education.

      The “Art Par Excellence” exhibit will feature original two-dimensional artwork by students with disabilities (mainstreamed, inclusion, self-contained classes or activities). The age categories are students younger than age 12 and age 12-21. Each public and private school may submit one work, with artwork to be displayed at three locations statewide. The artists will also be recognized at an opening reception. Application deadline is Jan. 28.

      The Rosary Altar Society of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, MacArthur Avenue, Sayreville, will honor Edna Good as Rosarian of the Year at its 23rd annual communion breakfast to be held after the 9 a.m. Mass on Oct. 3.

      Cost is $5 per person.

      Animal Rescue Force

      is seeking volunteers

      Animal Rescue Force, East Brunswick, is seeking volunteers to work one Saturday or Sunday per month at the group’s adoption centers located at the Route 18 Flea Market, East Brunswick, and at the Englishtown Auction.

      Responsibilities will include walking dogs, cleaning crates and talking to the public.
