      Gavlan’s to open soon

EAST BRUNSWICK — Construc-tion is well under way at Gavlan’s Grill & Bar, Route 18 south, the former location of Stuff Yer Face.

A grand opening is scheduled for later this year.

Gavlan’s owners are Jeff Jonas, who was a cook in 1986 at the original Stuff Yer Face, and wife Melanie Totten-Jonas, both of Old Bridge. The restaurant is named after their twin boys, Gavin and Dylan, who died shortly after birth a year and a half ago.

After graduating from Seton Hall University, Jeff worked in the technology field and eventually owned his own technology consulting company. After many years, the couple decided to open their own gymnastics and cheerleading gym, Jonas Gymnastics Academy & Cheer Center, located in Marlboro.

However, Jeff said he never lost his desire to work in the restaurant

      industry.

“Melanie and I can’t wait to bring this hot concept to East Brunswick,” Jeff said. “We have lived in the area all of our lives and we hope people will be as receptive to the concept as we think they will. We are looking forward to many great years in this community.”

Gavlan’s is expected to open by year’s end. After Jan. 1, it will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

The former Stuff Yer Face location is undergoing a major transformation. The fireplace and most of the walls are gone, and windows have been added for a more open atmosphere.

The owners plan to provide a variety of menu items including handmade burgers, homemade soup, steaks, seafood and a full-service bar with an extensive selection of draft beers and martinis.

Gavlan’s is accepting applications in person for kitchen staff, bartenders, servers, hosts and busboys.
