      Police Beat

    • A burglary was reported at the Alsberg law office on Milltown Road around 12:06 a.m. Dec. 21. Police said two men attempted to break into the first floor of the building but fled when police responded. The owner of the law firm was working late in his office when he heard a loud banging noise coming from outside the building. He looked out the window and saw a white male. The loud noises could still be heard coming from the first floor. Patrolman Wade Gordon arrived soon after and saw the man flee into the adjacent neighborhood. A foot pursuit began but the suspect was lost in the nearby back yards. The first-floor entrance sustained damage from the suspect’s attempt to pry the door. Entry was not made. Police believe two suspects took part in the burglary attempt. The one who was seen was described as a white male, in his late teens to mid 20s, wearing a brown jacket and dark pants.
    • Police arrested two men recently on drug and weapons charges following the reported theft of a gun from a township home on Dec. 4. Police had received a report from a 25-year-old Little Brook Lane resident that a registered 40-caliber Glock handgun was taken by an unknown person during a gathering at his house. On Dec. 14, police arrested William Morris, 22, of Lake Street, Jamesburg, on a contempt of court warrant from Monroe. Police said Morris had three packets of cocaine in his jacket at the time. He was charged with theft of the gun, possession of a weapon without a permit, and possession of cocaine, and was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center, North Brunswick, in lieu of $50,000 bail. On Dec. 17, police arrested Jason Davis, 25, of Jackson, on a contempt of court warrant from Jackson Township, Ocean County. He was found to be in possession of four packets of cocaine, police said. He was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and held in default of $25,000 bail. On Dec. 20, Davis was additionally charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a weapon without a permit.

A resident of the Leonardine Apartments reported a burglary between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 25. According to the police report, someone entered the residence and took a Panasonic VCR from the bedroom. There was no sign of forced entry. The VCR was valued at about $150.
