      Agnes Bogucki Smykaj

      Mrs. Smykaj, 100, of South River, died Jan. 2 at Park Place Care Center, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. She was a member of the St. Mary of Ostrabrama Columbiettes Council No. 3001, South River. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 1990; a son, Edward, in 1982; a daughter, Arlene Vena, in 1999; and a sister, Emily Gibus, in 2000. Mrs. Smykaj is survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. The Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River, was in charge of arrangements..

      Dorothy McIntyre

      Mrs. McIntyre, 79, of Edison, died Jan. 3 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Rosendale, N.Y., before moving to Edison 20 years ago. She was a homemaker. Mrs. McIntyre was predeceased in 1986 by her husband, William. Surviving are a son, William McIntyre of Old Bridge; a daughter, Joan Paglino of Great River, N.Y.; a brother, Salvatore Coco of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Interment took place at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.

      Rose Barone Bogdan

      Mrs. Bogdan, 74, of Spotswood, died Jan. 4 at home. She was a member of the South River Italian American Club. Mrs. Bogdan was predeceased by her husband, former South River Police Lt. Edward Bogdan, in 1978; and a brother, Anthony Barone. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Antoinette Roselli of East Brunswick, and Debbie and Alan Opachinski of Manville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kasmer and Helen Barone of Florida, and Peter and Frances Barone of Sayreville; and four grandsons. Burial took place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. The Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River, was in charge of arrangements.

      Mary De Rosa Galdo

      Mrs. Galdo, 93, of Spotswood, died Jan. 5 at home. She resided in Pelham, N.Y., before moving to Spotswood three years ago. Mrs. Galdo was predeceased by two daughters, Mary Ann Decker and Annette Galdo. She is survived by her husband, Alphonse A. Galdo; a daughter, Elizabeth Galdo of Spotswood; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Burial took place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. The Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements.

      Edna M. Lawson Lewis

      Mrs. Lewis, 83, of East Brunswick, died Jan. 7 at Sunrise Assisted Living, East Brunswick. She was an administrative assistant to a surrogate judge in New York City before her retirement. Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Lewis, in 2000. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lewis and Bruce Sabin of East Brunswick; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence Lewis and Amelia Zalcman of Boston; a brother, Peter Lawson of Florida; a sister, Cecilia Holton of Staten Island, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Burial was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. The Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements. George C. Bittner

      Mr. Bittner, 74, of Old Bridge, died Jan. 8 at home. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 214, South River. Mr. Bittner is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan Sowienski Bittner; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Bittner of Jackson, and John and Rita Bittner of Bethlehem, Pa.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Vincent Carpentiero of South River, Kristine and William Meyer of Old Bridge, and Janice and Stanley Felicki of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Ann Champignon of Branchville and Dolores Springer of Beach Haven; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A Mss of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Interment was at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. The Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements.

      Monica Siwik Boroski

      Mrs. Boroski, 97, of Parlin, died Jan. 8 at Old Bridge Manor. She resided in Scranton, Pa., and Spotswood before moving to Parlin seven years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Boroski, in 1985; three brothers; and three sisters. Mrs. Boroski is survived by two sons, Leonard Boroski of Spotswood and Robert Boroski of New Brunswick; two daughters, Connie Jacobs of Parlin and Monica Rowley of Conyers, Ga.; two brothers, John Okrasinski of Scranton and Frank Okrasinski of Gouldsboro, Pa.; two sisters, Jean Goldback of Wilmington, Del., and Helen Shipton of Clarks Summit, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Arrangements were by The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy Memorial donations may be made to Sisters of Mercy, 1645 Route 22, Watchung 07060.

      Irene M. Henry Miller

      Mrs. Miller, 92, of East Brunswick, died Jan. 9 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. She was a school crossing guard for East Brunswick Township for 21 years, retiring in 1979. Mrs. Miller was predeceased by her husband, Howard G. Miller, in 1993. She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Baron of Taffton, Pa., Jean Doerrherfer of Brick, and Sylvia Lacey of Lady Lake, Fla.; a son, Howard B. Miller of East Brunswick; two brothers, Floyd Henry and Robert Henry, of Maine; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Burial took place at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. The Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood, was in charge of arrangements.

      Harriet Hoffman

      Mrs. Hoffman, 80, of East Brunswick, died Dec. 18 at her winter home in Coconut Creek, Fla. She was predeceased by a son, Scott Hoffman, in 1994. Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her husband, Edward Hoffman; two sons, Gary Hoffman of East Brunswick and Marc Hecht of Matawan; two sisters, Doris Kirk and Joyce Payne; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Entombment was at Star of David Funeral Home & Mausoleum, North Lauderdale, Fla. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, 195 Albany St., New Brunswick 08903-2681.

      Alexander Belcheff

      Mr. Belcheff, 71, of New Brunswick, died Dec. 26 at home. His wife, Monica Cronin Belcheff, died in 1991. Surviving are three sons, Jack of South River, and Mark and Kevin, both of New Brunswick; a sister, Draga Belcheff; a brother, Theodore Belcheff; a sister-in-law, Joan Stetson of Sayreville; a granddaughter, Gabrielle; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, South River. Walter F. “Jimmy” Boyler

      Mr. Boyler, 77, of Sayreville, died Dec. 29 at home. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was employed as a groundskeeper with DuPont Fabric and Finish Division, Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for 40 years. A member of the Sayreville Board of Health, he served as an aide to Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-19th) and worked as a courier for the borough of Sayreville. Surviving are two brothers, Edward Boyler and George “Doc” Boyler, both of Sayreville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.

      Debra Sorensen Brown

      Mrs. Brown, 53, of South River, died Dec. 13 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Her husband, James D. Brown, died in 1999. Surviving are a son, Edward Brown of South River; a daughter, Jamielyn Kelsey Brown of South River; two sisters, Connie Sorensen of Edison and Claire Brewer of Halstead, Pa.; a brother, Roy Sorensen of New Brunswick; and her mother-in-law, Rosemary Miklaszewski. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.

      Eugene Walter Brunner

      Mr. Brunner, 66, of Eatontown, died Dec. 22 in Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he He was an artist whose works have been in exhibitions at the Guild of Creative Art, Shrewsbury, and Monmouth Museum, Lincroft section of Middletown. Surviving are two sons, David Brunner of Old Bridge and Alex Brunner of Ocean Township; a daughter, Robin Sorrentino of Eatontown; and four grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Acadia, P.O. Box 45, Bar Harbor, ME 04809. Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, was in charge of arrangements.

      Howard T. Ludlow, Ph.D.

      Dr. Ludlow, 83, formerly of Sayreville, died Jan. 3 in Memphis, Tenn. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was a senior professor of economics and labor relations at Seton Hall University, South Orange, where he was employed for 42 years. He served on the Sayreville Industrial Commission. Surviving are his wife, Catherine; a daughter, Maureen Demetriou of Memphis; two sons, Howard T. Ludlow Jr., of Houston and Francis X. Ludlow of Ashburn, Va.; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas by the Sea Church, Orange Beach, Ala.

      Harry Marchuck

      Mr. Marchuck, 76, of Old Bridge, died Dec. 27 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Skorupa Marchuck; a son, Greg of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Joanne McLaughlin of Milltown and Gloria Rojack of Woolwich; a sister, Elizabeth Erzen of East Brunswick; a brother, Joseph Marchuck of Simpson, Pa.; and six grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover.

      Marie A. Grazidei Palka

      Mrs. Palka, 78, of Sayreville, died Dec. 24 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement in 1991, she was employed as a bank teller with Midlantic National Bank, now Penn Federal, Sayreville, where she worked for 22 years. Her husband, John Palka, died in 1973. Surviving are two daughters, Stephanie Dibble of Marlboro and Christine Eck of Sayreville; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. A service was held at First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
