      Monroe Township’s 9-year-old travel basketball team defeated Millstone (33-29) and Little Silver (30-19) to improve their season record to 15-2. Those victories helped the 9s seal the third seed in the upcoming Monmouth Youth Playoffs. Against Millstone, Kevin Brix and Nick Wolfson combined their talents for a 19-point, five-assist performance, while Zach Gorham (14 rebounds), Zach Pace (five rebounds), Matt Siemons, Andy Dooley, Dominick Morelli, Justin Fleites, Aaron Potter, Cameron Warech, Hector Marquez and Kyle Crothers combined for 12 points, 23 rebounds and 10 steals. Against Little Silver, Gorham, Brix and Dooley registered all the team’s points with 11 steals, while Siemons, Wolfson, Morelli, Fleites, Potter and Warech contributed 14 rebounds and five assists. The 9s finished Monmouth League play with an 11-1 record, good enough for a second-place finish.

      The Men’s Adult Baseball League of New Jersey is currently forming and admitting new teams for the spring season. Individual players and/or teams 18 years and up of any skill level are welcome. Five separate leagues of play. Internet stats and box scores for all games, with a 20-game season followed by playoffs. The all-star game will be played in a professional baseball stadium.       Flip Over Gymnastics in East Brunswick announced that the Level 5 girls team, under the direction of coach Jennifer Ruth, just returned from the Sand Dollar/Whitlock Invitational in Orlando, Fla., where they won both the gold and silver in the all-around competition. Corri Greis, a 9-year-old Level 5 state competitor, who had just placed seventh in bars in the state competition, placed first on bars, floor, beam and all-around. Kyla Vacchio, a 10-year-old Level 5 competitor, placed second in all individual events, as well as the all-around. The Sand Dollar/Whitlock Invitational was held Jan. 21-23 at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.

      The East Brunswick Wrestling Club C team (grades two through six) had an outstanding showing at the Mid Jersey League End of year tournament on Sunday, Feb. 13. Tyler Gallegos (63), John Glasscock (102), and Max Letson (Hwt) all took first place. Stevonn Charleston (80), Dominick Masselli (90), John Diegnan (Hwt) placed second. Strong finishes by Michael Fahy (68), Alex Skwish (70), Mason White (87), Matt Burns (95), Zack Zukowski (99), and Vinny Frederico (102) earned third. Shane White (95) and Tom Fazio (97) wrestled hard and placed fourth.

      The East Brunswick Hurricanes U10 travel basketball team upped its record to 5-3 in the Central Jersey League with a 35-19 victory over crosstown rival, the East Brunswick Timberwolves. Leading scorers for the Canes were Dan Sclafani (10 points), Tyler Flood (eight), Paul Venezia (six) and Nooch Giusti chipped in with four. Flood also did an outstanding job on defense for the Canes.

      The Executive Board of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association invites female golfers from Middlesex County to join members in playing a friendly, competitive round of golf on Thursday mornings from April 1-Nov. 1. Golfers should have a knowledge of the rules of the game and be capable of playing the round in timely fashion. Flights will be established depending on level of competency. Prizes are awarded for the weekly competitions and trophies are awarded at the closing luncheon in November to winners of tournaments.
