Restaurant will bring needed tax revenue

This is in response to the letter to the editor from Alyson Steinberg (“Hooters Does Not Belong in Family-Oriented Community”) that appeared in the March 3 issue of the Sentinel.

      Ms. Steinberg, it’s 2005. Here’s your wake-up call.

First, what Hooters isn’t — it’s not an adult bookstore, it’s not a go-go bar. It is a globally successful theme restaurant chain (not to forget its airline). It’s kind of a Chili’s with scenery.

It’s not for men only, but I’d venture a guess that if Dad had his choice of waiting in line at Olive Garden or Chili’s or On the Border, he and the kids would be at Hooters having hot wings and burgers.

Now, the big picture — we need tax money. The Democrats have gutted the local economy. Witness the old Meyer’s, the old Wiz, the empty stores up and down Route 18. Did we ask for this? Taxes are going up every year. Did we ask for that? Blue ribbon schools, a too-frequently used term, are putting us in the red.

Since we haven’t been able to curb the residential building boom here in East Brunswick, let’s give our new residents another place to eat. Or at least let them have a choice.
