      Review assessments in Spotswood

This is an open letter to the residents of Spotswood. As I hope you are all aware, the borough of Spotswood completed a revaluation of all properties, effective in 2005. A letter was sent by the revaluation company notifying all property owners of their new assessed value, and recently, the annual notice of assessment, containing the same information, was sent by the borough to each property owner.

If you have not reviewed your new assessment, I urge you to do so. If you feel you could not sell your property for the indicated market value, you should file a tax appeal with the Middlesex County Tax Board by April 1. The forms are available by calling the tax board at (732) 745-3350.

Do not wait to see the tax impact on your July bill; it is too late to file a tax appeal for the current year at that point. The filing deadline is April 1 of each year because the basis of filing a tax appeal is the value placed on your property, not the taxes that result from that value.
