Dog found at Edgeboro landfill doing well in N.C.

It was a very sad day for our family when we had to put down our 16-year-old pet, Marlow. He wasn’t able to walk anymore, and he couldn’t see very well. He was a great loving and faithful dog to our family.

Anyway, we went to Blumig Kennels, East Brunswick, because it was close and we knew that Leigh, the dog who had been found in December 2003 at the Edgeboro landfill, East Brunswick, was being taken care of there. Even though our Marlow was ill, I still called and had our name placed on the adoption list when I saw Leigh’s picture in the newspaper. We once had a beautiful female dog named Charlie who looked exactly like Leigh, but we lost her at age 14 in September 1998. My husband had found her at work when she was about 2 months old.

We took Marlow to Blumig Kennels. We also took along a picture of Charlie. I showed the picture to Linda Blumig, owner of the kennel, and she was amazed to see the similarity between Charlie and Leigh. Linda said if we would like to take Leigh home to see if things worked out, we could take her the following week when we picked up Marlow’s ashes. That’s when we saw Leigh for the first time, and we just fell in love with her. Leigh is an absolutely wonderful animal. She is loving and gentle and listens when you talk to her.

Many thanks to Linda and her brother, David Blumig, for letting us have Leigh. We feel very fortunate to have been selected to care for this beautiful animal. We have since moved out of New Jersey to North Carolina, but before we left, we took Leigh to see her other friend at the kennel, Chris Bailey, who had also taken care of her. Chris was afraid that Leigh wouldn’t be taken care of properly, but after meeting with him, we think he felt better and knew the dog would be well taken of.

Leigh also has a new playmate, a Beagle named Scooter. He wandered onto our property in mid-November, and he must have been about 3-4 months old. We tried to locate the owner, but to no avail. He’s now about 9 months old and thinks Leigh is his mom. They have a very large and secure play area here.

Any time we have to make a trip to New Jersey, we always visit Linda at the kennel with Leigh, and they are happy to see each other.

Thank you again so much, Linda and David Blumig, for allowing our family to care for this wonderful and beautiful animal. Leigh’s a Southern belle now.
