The Central East Jersey Basketball Officials (CEJBO) organization is now accepting applications from those men and women, who are at least 18 years of age as of Sept. 1, who are interested in becoming a high school basketball official. Classes will run from late September through mid-November, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, at East Brunswick High School. Applications can be obtained at the organization’s Web site at www.cejbo.org or by contacting the cadet supervisor, Allan Kaufman at (732) 390-1860 or at tripllauto@aol.com.

The Central East Jersey Basketball Officials association (CEJBO) is holding a charity golf tournament, along with Have a Heart for Heather Non-Profit Organization, on Aug. 5, starting at 8 a.m., at the Cream Ridge Golf Club. Cost to play is $110 per golfer.

All proceeds will benefit Heather Hornecker, who was born in Sayreville, and resides there today with her family. At the age of 2, Heather was diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries. The two main arteries of her heart (pulmonary and aorta) are not connected to the correct ventricle, which makes the oxygenated blood flow back into her lungs and the de-oxygenated blood flow back into her body.

As an infant, Heather underwent open heart surgery, which opened the two chambers in her heart to restructure the abnormal circulation of blood flow. Unfortunately, in May 2004, Heather went into congenial heart failure, which categorized her as a possible candidate for a heart transplant. She was then registered for a heart transplant listing.

On Dec. 1, 2004, Heather’s 22 years of struggling with this defect had finally come to an end, as the United Network for Organ Sharing found her a heart, and in the early morning hours of Dec. 2 she was operated on and is currently recovering from surgery. However, the medical costs are considerable and will continue to increase.

The Chargers Skills & Drills youth football camp will be held July 18-21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spotswood High School for anyone between the ages 6-14. The cost of the camp is $80, and the four-day camp will stress the fundamentals and techniques to improve football skills. Also included in the camp will be a ticket and transportation to this year’s Snapple Bowl on July 21 at Kean University and a free camp T-shirt. The Spotswood H.S. staff will be conducting and demonstrating the drills and teaching the fundamentals of the game along with this year’s guest coach, current Perth Amboy resident and former Detroit Lions offensive tackle Scott Connover. All campers will be placed in groups by age and skill level from beginners to advanced players. For more information and to download a registration form go to www.spotswoodfootball.com or call (908) 812-6223. All registrations should be in by July 15.
