Midnight fire

Firefighters from South River and East Brunswick battled a blaze that began shortly after midnight Tuesday on Prospect Street in South River. One occupant of the home was treated for smoke inhalation during the fire, which is believed to have started in the basement. Much of the house suffered heat and water damage. The scene was cleared around 5 a.m.
