In a preseason exhibition game, the East Brunswick-Spotswood Golden Bear Chargers Midget team beat the Colonia Patriot Midgets 35-14. Running back Cody Leonard broke tackles for one touchdown run in the first quarter and also caught another touchdown early in the second quarter. Colonia tied the score before going into halftime 14-14. In the second half, Nick Emmons ran for a touchdown while receivers Mike Liming and Paul Bruno each caught touchdown passes to put Colonia away.

GBC quarterback Shawn Weeks shined, throwing for over 200 yards and three touchdown passes for the day. The stiff GBC defense was led by tackle Eric Ashurov, tackle Jack Young, linebacker Josh Todd, tackle Cory Bloom and nose guard Dan Adamsewics. “This was a total team effort by our midget team today. These young men played through the oppressive heat to make a statement on the field. I look forward to a fun and exciting year,” head coach Don Goldberg said.

The Morgan-Parlin Panther Football and Cheerleading Organization have arranged to place a Memorial Monument at the entrance to its home field at the Middlesex County Waterfront Park in dedication to Greg Wasnak. Before his unexpected death last year, Wasnak was involved with the Panther Organization for nearly 25 years. He tirelessly donated his time and talent to the organization, and displayed great character, commitment and leadership, all in the interest of helping the youth of the community.
