Oct. 13-21 • “Kidstuff” Coupon Book Sale, sponsored by Special Education PTA (SEPTA) of South River. Each family-oriented book contains coupons for savings for merchants and activities in Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon counties. Cost is $25. To order, call (732) 651-7157.
Oct. 13-31 • Teacher/Student School-Supply Collection, sponsored by Heather Halinski of Old Bridge, a senior at Kean University, Union, at the Old Bridge Public Library Main Branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road. All items dropped off will be donated to elementary schools in Old Bridge. Halinski is conducting the service project as part of the membership requirements for Kappa Delta Pi, the educational honor society for college students.
Oct. 13-Dec. 3 • Collection for Soldiers Fighting Overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan, sponsored by Keith Price, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 33, Milltown. Collection bin is in Milltown Borough Hall, 39 Washington Ave. Items sought: suntan lotion; bug spray; lip balm; feminine products; ear swabs; laundry detergent; bug wipes/bug strips; wipes (travel size); razors; toilet paper; eye drops; spices; tea bags; coffee; small drink mixes; socks; clothesline/pins; snack food; cereal/protein bars; fleece blankets; microwaveable foods (canned or boxed); hard candy/gum; writing materials; batteries (any size); calling cards; packets of hot chocolate. Contributions must be in original packaging. Keith is working to achieve Eagle Scout rank by collecting items to be sent overseas through Operation Shoebox New Jersey 2005.

Oct. 15 • Fall Craft Show and Bake Sale, sponsored by St. Thomas the Apostle HSA, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the school auditorium, Route 18 south, Old Bridge. Holiday gifts, tricky trays, 50/50, handmade items. Free admission and parking. (732) 866-0482. • Hit the Bricks 5-Mile Run or Walk, to benefit the Sayreville Brain Injured Children Association, registration 8-9:15 a.m., event begins at 9:30 a.m., at Sayreville Borough Hall, Main Street. The 500-point Grand Prix, USA Track and Field (USATF)-certified course will begin in front of Borough Hall and wind through the town. Entry fee is $25. Prizes awarded to the first 200 finishers, overall winners and winners in five age groups. Cost is $5. Proceeds go to the Little House Association, which provides a safe place for South River Girl Scouts to meet. Oct. 15-31 • Pumpkin Patch, sponsored by Simpson United Methodist Church, noon to 8 p.m. Sundays-Fridays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, at the church, 2095 Route 516, Old Bridge. All varieties of pumpkins will be sold. Gourds, Indian corn, cornstalks, candy, baked goods, snacks, beverages available for purchase. Children’s play area, face-painting, live musical performances (on select days) offered on weekends. Oct. 15 & 16 • Candlelit, Self-Guided Walking Tours of Historical Chestnut Hill Cemetery, sponsored by the East Brunswick Museum, 5-8:30 p.m., at the cemetery, Old Bridge Turnpike, East Brunswick. Living history re-enactors dressed in period costumes portray historical individuals buried in the cemetery. More than 500 candles in bags light the cemetery paths.
