Youth activities on tap at Jamesburg Library
A variety of fall youth programs are planned at the Jamesburg Public Library, Gatzmer Avenue. “Pajama Party” sessions for 3- and 4-year-olds are slated for 6:45-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Oct. 19. Storytelling, singing, dancing, crafts and pumpkin-painting will be featured. Youngsters in second, third and fourth grades are invited to the library’s “Afterschool Program” set for 3-4 p.m. on Thursdays, Oct. 20-Nov. 17. Activities will include designing an automobile window magnet to advertise the library. A winning bumper sticker will be chosen from each grade level and used as a library fund-raiser. Sessions featuring pumpkin-painting and ciphering codes and secret writings also will be offered. The library has a new Web site, www.JamesburgLibrary.com. Daisy walk, Halloween carnival coming to E.B.
The third annual Camp Daisy Walk in the Park and Halloween Carnival will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 in Bicentennial Park, Riva Avenue, East Brunswick. The event, which is sponsored by the Daisy Association, will raise funds to support existing recreation programs and to develop new programs for people with disabilities. Walk registration and check-in will start at 12:30 p.m. Registration cost is $25 per family. Free T-shirts, goody bags and water will go to the first 200 walkers. The walk will begin at 1 p.m., following a path approximately 1-mile long, winding through Bicentennial Park. The Halloween Carnival will feature food, clowns, face-painting, music, pumpkin-painting, a costume contest, game booths, a magician and balloon sculptor and trick-or-treating. Scout seeks donations for troops overseas
Keith Price, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 33, Milltown, is working to achieve his Eagle Scout rank by collecting items to be sent (through Operation Shoebox New Jersey 2005) to soldiers fighting overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. A collection bin for donated items is set up in Milltown Borough Hall, 39 Washington Ave. The drive will continue through Dec. 3. Items sought include suntan lotion; bug spray; lip balm; feminine products; ear swabs; laundry detergent; bug wipes/bug strips; wipes (travel size); razors; toilet paper; eye drops; spices; tea bags; coffee; small drink mixes; socks; clothesline/pins; snack food; cereal/protein bars; fleece blankets; microwaveable foods (canned or boxed); hard candy/gum; writing materials; batteries (any size); calling cards; and packets of hot chocolate. Monroe Township High School (MTHS) will hold a food drive in conjunction with the four high school sporting events planned for Oct. 15. Contributions will be used to restock local food pantries. All fans attending the alumni soccer game at 11:30 a.m. on the turf field, the varsity football game at 1 p.m. at the high school on Perrineville Road, the junior varsity soccer game at 2:30 p.m. on the field at Thompson Park, and the varsity soccer game on the turf field, are asked to bring a nonperishable food item. Identity theft will be topic at library program
The South River Library, 55 Appleby Ave., will offer a program on identity theft from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 19. Guest speaker will be Dominique Dowsing-Fruchtman. Household hazardous wastes which are improperly disposed of are identified as a danger to children and animals, a potential cause of groundwater pollution and a potential threat to garbage collection crews.
