Minor injuries reported in flat-bed, pickup crash
MONROE — One man was hospitalized for injuries he received in an accident involving a commercial truck and a pickup truck last week. Oscar Perez, of Trenton, was attempting to make a left turn from Centre Drive onto Applegarth Road southbound. Perez, driving a Toyota pickup, was struck by a flatbed truck heading north. The accident took place at about 3:40 p.m. on Jan. 25. According to Monroe police officer Allen Exel, township firefighters had to extricate Perez from his pickup truck by removing the driver’s-side door. Monroe Township First Aid responders then transported Perez, who was conscious after the accident, to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, Exel said. Perez has since been discharged from the hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday. Philadelphia resident Gerard Dress, who was driving the flatbed truck, was uninjured. While there was extensive damage to the driver’s side of Perez’s truck, Dress’ truck did not sustain any damage, Exel said. The southbound lane of Applegarth Road was closed for almost an hour after the accident, he said. Exel said the event is still under investigation. No summonses were issued to the drivers involved in the accident.
