      Monroe’s U11 boys travel basketball team’s victory over Merrill Park (55-50) left their opponent seeing double, as Victor Sorrento’s (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Danny Brix’s (25 points, 11 rebounds) double-double performance helped Monroe move into sole possession of first place in Central Jersey’s U12 Red Division. Tyler Cushman and Ahmid Williams orchestrated the offense with a combined seven-assist, eight-point performance. While Ryan Genevieve’s season-high 10 rebound performance with three steals helped set the tone, Ryan Germano (seven rebounds, three steals, three assists), Brian Nale and Anthony Battaglia combined 18 rebounds and eight points to help seal their sixth straight victory and improved their season record to 25-4.

      South River Little League final registration for new and returning players for the 2006 season will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the high school music room (across from the gym). Children from 9 to 12 years old (as of April 30, 2006) are eligible. Cost is $65 for one child and $110 for more than one.       The East Brunswick Hurricanes boys travel basketball team picked up two big wins over this weekend. On Saturday, in the U12 North Brunswick League, the Canes beat Hightstown, 42-30. Dan Sclafani led all scorers with 13 points. Brandon Patton and Tyler Flood chipped in with five points a piece. On Sunday, in the U11 Central Jersey League, the Canes beat South Brunswick Gold in a thrilling 38-37 victory. Sclafani again was the top scorer with 10 points, followed by Nooch Giusti with nine points. Giusti hit the game-winning shot with 10 seconds remaining in the game to secure the victory.

      The SWS Over-30 Men’s Baseball League will hold registration for its 14th year of men’s baseball will take place on Feb. 16 at the Old Bridge Civic Center on Route 516/Cotrell Road between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The regular season consists of approximately 21 games, beginning June 2 and running through October. Games will be played Mon-Fri. at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. noon or 3 p.m. at Geick Park in Old Bridge. Registration fee is $225 cash or check due at registration and nonrefundable after May 1. New players must try out. Players must be at least 30 years old by June 1.       The Monroe Recreation Track Program is under way for students in grade K-high school. The program is held at the Barclay Brook School through April 3, and at Monroe High School April 24 through June 12. Classes are being held on Feb. 13 and 27; March 6, 12 20 and 27; April 3 and 24; May 8, 15 and 22; June 5 and 12 from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Register at the Community Center before the track program begins. If the schools are closed or there is an early dismissal, the track program will not meet.

      Sayrewoods South Little League is holding its final registration on Feb. 3 (7:30 p.m.-9 p.m.) and Feb. 10 from (7:30 p.m.-9 p.m.) at the SWSLL Clubhouse on Fox Street. Registration fee is $75 for one child, $100 for two or more, and $50 for t-ball (5-year-olds). The season includes all boys and girls born between May 1, 1989, and April 30, 2001. A work bond of $100 is also due at registration, but will be returned upon completion of 12 hours or work. A candy fundraiser will be distributed at registration and money collected at this time. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is required at registration for all new players and will be retained for future references. For more information, call (732) 679-6500 and leave a message.

      South River Parks and Recreation spring sports registration will be held on March 1, 2 and 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Middle School auxiliary gym, Programs are open to South River residents only. Make checks payable to borough of South River.

      Baseball/softball fee is $25. T-ball is open to youngsters enrolled in kindergarten for September through first grade. Practice is from 6-6:25 p.m. with games running from 6:30-7:15 p.m. Birth certificate required at registration.

      Rookie league is for grades 1-2. Games start at 6:15 p.m. Overhand pitching is introduced. Minor League is for grades 3-5. Games start at 6:15 p.m. Umpire pitches first three innings, and the last three a player pitches. Major League if for grades 6-8. Games start at 6:15 p.m. Girls softball is for girls between 7-15. The age of the girls at the time of the first official day of the season will determine eligibility and placement within the following divisions — gidgets (7-9), juniors (10-12) and seniors (13-15.

      Games will be on weekdays, unless weather and league activity dictates otherwise. Games will be played in South River, Spotswood, Milltown, North Brunswick and New Brunswick. Parents/guardians are required to transport their own child to and from each game.

      The New Jersey Federation of Baseball Umpires will hold a clinic on the following dates for membership in the NJSFBU: Feb. 23 and 28, and March 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21 and 23, with a March 28 exam. Classes will be held at the Mickey Sedlak Recreation Building on Dolan Street in Sayreville. For more information, call (732) 390-2918.

      Registration is presently in progress for the Men’s Softball Sunday League, the Men’s Softball Mid-Week League and (offered for the first time) the Women’s Co-ed Softball League in Sayreville.       Jersey Knights U10B soccer team will be holding tryouts during winter indoor training and also will be playing in a winter indoor league. The team needs two or three players for the spring season and beyond when it moves to 11 vs. 11. Professional training and coaching (no parents) with one of the premier clubs in Central Jersey. Great opportunity for the serious, dedicated player to improve his game. It’s not too late to join a great club and team. There is no penalty for U10B to switch teams from the fall to the spring.       The New Jersey Interscholastic Lacrosse Officials Association will be holding cadet classes throughout the state for individuals interested in officiating high school boys lacrosse.
