The Tamarack Senior Golf Association is looking for senior golfers who want to play golf on Mondays at Tamarack Golf Course (7 a.m.-9 a.m. tee times). Registration for the year is $15. Season will begin on April 3 and run through Oct. 16. You may also play inter-county — Tuesday away at Mercer, Monmouth, Somerset and Union counties. Wednesday play is at home. The March meeting is scheduled for March 9 at 10 a.m. at Tamarack’s clubhouse, with meetings to follow every second Thursday of the month. In a season where the Monroe Recreation Junior Falcon Wrestling B team has improved to a 6-1 dual meet record, their young counterparts on the C team have also been making a name for themselves. At the Middlesex Novice Tournament, held at Middlesex High School on Jan. 22, Andy Lombard and Nick Depalma placed first, Zachary Widmer, Liam Craver and Tim Ruckdeschel placed second, Zachary Widom and Logan Bussey placed third, and Ryan Craver finished fourth.
The C team boasts returning members with brothers Anthony and Nick Parente, and Matt and Chris Cerniglia, Ryan Cushing, Nick Goff and Alex Widom. New to the team are Mitch Polito, Hugh McCabe, Jack Levy, Jonathon Beer, Vincent Giordana, Steve Marcario, Jeff Gardner, Richard Widmer, Devin Degraw, Ryan Lajes, Peter Jarosiewicz, Ed Small, Alec Smoktonowicz and Brian Steigler.
The C team will be preparing for the Clark Bantam, Mid-Jersey League and Metuchen Novice tournaments.
The B team still has dual meets with Marlboro and Manalapan before turning its sights on South Plainfield’s Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 18 and the Mid-Jersey League tournament on Feb. 26.
St. Mary of Ostrabrama of South River beat Our Lady of Victory, 26-19, in the finals of the St. Bernadette’s fourth-grade league tournament after finishing the regular season undefeated at 7-0. With the score tied 19-19 and less than a minute-and-a-half remaining, Tarin Smith took over the game by scoring six unanswered points. He sank four free throws and made a fast-break layup off a steal. The team’s overall record is 22-4. The starters include point guard Tarin Smith, who leads the team in scoring and assists. Jack Mehr and Hunter Wolff play strong perimeter defense and provide scoring punch at the wings. Power forward D’Ondre Moore leads the team in rebounding and is second in scoring. Center Tyler Hill provides rebounding and excellent passing out of the high post. Sixth man Sean Darrar plays both wing and forward. The team has an excellent backup cast of mostly third-graders. They are led by Joey Urbanik at point guard, Riley Fernandes and Michael Carvalheiro at wing, Ricky Fernandes at power forward, and fourth-grader Alex Da Rocha at center. The team is in third place in the OLV league with an 8-2 record and in first place in the Raritan Bay League with a 4-0 record. The team is coached by Joe Urbanik and Paul Mehr.
East Brunswick resident and Saint Joseph freshman Anthony Buccigrossi Jr. capped off a fine winter track season by finishing third in the shot put at the N.J. Catholic Track Conference Frosh Championships. Buccigrossi and his shot teammates, Jon Langton, Ryan Elwood and Scott Suleski, also had combined first-place finishes at the Passarelli and Winter Relay events. In individual competition, Buccigrossi also earned a third-place finish at the Randolph Shot Put Invitational with a toss of 43-7, his longest throw of the season.
Monroe’s U11 boys travel basketball team defeated Edison (50-30) to clinch first place and the number one seed in the Central Jersey League’s upcoming 12U Red Division playoffs. Ryan Genevieve (eight rebounds) and Danny Brix (four assists, seven rebounds) combined for 28 points and 15 rebounds. Other game contributors included Tyler Cushman (four rebounds), Victor Sorrento (five rebounds), Ryan Germano (six rebounds), Ahmid Williams (two steals), Peter Gulick (one rebound), Chris Tagliaferro (one rebound) and Anthony Battaglia (three rebounds) as they combined for a 22-point, 19-rebound performance. Monroe won their season-high 10th straight game and improved their overall record to 27-4.
The executive board of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association invites female golfers from Middlesex County and the surrounding counties to join members in playing a friendly, competitive round of golf on Thursday mornings from April 1 through Nov. 1. Golfers should have a knowledge of the rules of the game and be capable of playing the round in a timely fashion. Flights will be established depending on level of competency. Prizes are awarded for the weekly competitions and trophies are awarded at the closing luncheon in November to winners of tournaments.

The guest speaker will be Tony Wilcenski, PGA professional and director of the Monroe Township Recreation Department. His topic will be “Techniques to Lower Your Golf Score.” Competitive play begins April 6.
