The Monroe Township Soccer Club (MTSC) is accepting registrations for the spring season until March 12. After this date, prospective players will be placed on a waiting list. Registration forms can be filled out and dropped off at the Monroe Rec Center, 120 Monmouth Road. The spring season will start on April 2. Monroe’s U11 boys travel basketball team completed its Central Jersey regular season with a victory over Woodbridge (56-41). Ryan Genevieve (one assist), Danny Brix (five rebounds) and Ryan Germano (three steals) combined for 44 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Ahmid Williams (two steals) and Tyler Cushman (two rebounds) piloted the offense with a combined nine-point and four-steal performance. Other game contributors included Victor Sorrento (five rebounds), Brian Nale (one assist), Chris Tagliaferro (one assist), Peter Gulick (one steal) and Anthony Battaglia (one rebound) as they collected six rebounds and five steals. Monroe finished the regular season 11-0 and improved their seasonal record to 31-4.

The Monroe boys U9 team won the league championship in the Monmouth Youth Basketball League with a 32-30 victory over West Long Branch on Sunday. To get to the championship game, Monroe defeated Fair Haven (28-21) and Matawan (25-19) in the quarter and semifinals. This is the first Monmouth Youth title for Monroe’s travel basketball program. The boys showed tremendous dedication, hard work and sportsmanship in each and every game in which they participated, and the championship was the culmination of an exciting basketball season.

Throughout the season, at guard running the offensive were Chris Germano, Steven Egierd, Nicholas Scardilli, Azem Perovic, Willie Levier, Brian Niu, and John Cosenza. Controlling the boards and anchoring the defense at center and forward were Mario Danza, Nicholas Isola, Evan Waldron, Tyler Browne, Anant Chitravanshi and Bobby Horsch.

The MSM Baseball Leagues of New Jersey are currently forming and admitting new teams for the spring season. Individual players and/or teams 18 years and up of any skill level are welcome. There are seven separate leagues of play, and there are Internet statistics and box scores for all games. There is a 20-game season followed by playoffs, as well as all-star games in pro baseball stadium. The season starts in early April. The Monroe Junior Falcon wrestling team entered the final weeks of its season. The B Division team has improved to 8-1 with the Mid-Jersey League this past weekend. At the 32nd annual South Plainfield Tournament, Monroe brought a contingent of its B team wrestlers. Sal Profaci took first, while Andy Lombardi placed second. Steve Karoly, Mike Cordova, Jack Cussanelli and Trevor Santa Lucia finished fourth, with Steve McAnn and Harrison Utter placing fifth and sixth, respectively. Honorable mention went to Chris Cordova, Cole Cussanelli, Shawn Gardini and Chaz Reid.

The counterparts wrestled at the Clark Novice Tournament. First-place winners were Nick Depalma, Hugh McCabe and Logan Bussey. Third-place finishers were Zachary Widmer, Liam Craver, Ryan Craver, Alex Widom and Richard Widmer. Finishing in an impressive manor were Nick Parente and Steve Marcario, who each finished in fourth place.

Registration for the 14th year of men’s over-30 baseball will take place March 14 and 22 at the Old Bridge Civic Center, Route 516/Cottrell Road, between 7 and 8:30 p.m. The regular season consists of approximately 20 games, early June through October. Games will be played Monday through Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m., noon or 3 p.m. at Geick Park in Old Bridge.

The registration fee is $225 cash or check, due at registration and nonrefundable after May 1.

New players must try out. Players must be at least 30 years old by June 1, 2006.

A picture ID and copy of the player’s birth certificate is required for new players. A background check of age will be made.
