Former East Brunswick star Matt Metsch, now a freshman Franklin & Marshall, has certainly made the adjustment to the next level. Metsch has helped the Diplomats earn the top ranking among Division III schools. As a pitcher, Metsch has a .86 ERA and a 6-0 record.
On Sunday the East Brunswick varsity baseball team will be playing the Spotswood Chargers for the Commander Cup Trophy. The game will take place at the home of the Trenton Thunder at 3:30 p.m. The Trenton Thunder will be playing prior to the high school game at 1:30 p.m. Tickets to the E.B. vs. Spotswood game will include watching the Trenton Thunder play. At the recent Boston Marathon, the top New Jersey female was Toni Beninato, 24, who was 171st among women at 3:13:38. Toni is a Sayreville native born and raised. She went to the Sayreville school system, graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School in 2000. She ran cross country and track for high school. She then attended New York University from 2000-2004, ran cross country and track there, and graduating in 2004. She was then accepted to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she is a second-year medical student.
Adult (18-plus) recreational baseball players and teams are wanted for the summer season of the Amateur Baseball Association of N.J. They have multiple leagues in northern and central N.J. The Sayreville Little League All-Around Skills Camp, a professional instructional baseball camp for kids ages 6-13, will be hosted by America's Baseball Camps at the Sayreville Little League Complex on May 19-21. Times are Friday 6 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $115 per player. Interested players can visit the ABC Web site at www.baseballcamps.com or call (916) 772-7151 to register for the camp. Players are required to pre-register for the camp. Instructors are John McColl - Founder of Swing Kids and a former player at Pace University - and Jason Law - record holder and All-American at Monmouth University.

The following are the results of the Tamarack Women's Nine-Hole Association's April 6 outing - Play with the Master, pick a pro as partner (half handicap). Cathy Cosgrove (with Vijay Singh) took first with a 34, followed by Sally Hindes (with Tiger Woods) with a 34, Joan Hoskins (with Phil Mickelson) with a 34, and Janet Hefelfinger (Woods) with a 35. Gail Dimaio, Sally Hindes and Joyce Nicolaison had fewest putts with 18.
At the April 13 outing - kickers, not flights, choose your own handicap to come as close to par as possible - Annabelle Donnamaria and Nicolaison took first with a 36, followed by Dimaio with a 37, Marge Widder, Dee Moles and Hefelfinger with 38, and Jean Ertle, Doris Colgrove and Sally Deyette with 34. Deyette and Moles had fewest putts with 17.
