Dinner-dance May 19 to help food pantry
JAMESBURG - Each year the Deacons Food Pantry has difficulty maintaining a sufficient inventory of food for those in need, especially during the summer months.
Borough Councilman John Longo, along with members of the Jamesburg Democratic Club, came up with the idea to have a dance with profits going to the pantry, which is operated by the Jamesburg Presbyterian Church. From that idea blossomed an outpouring of support from the Knights of Columbus and the local PBA 166.
Organizers said they are particularly gratified by the support of Mike Campanella from the Knights of Columbus, borough acting Police Chief Paul Karkoska, council President Joe Jennings and members of the business community. And to help get the project off the ground, Borough Engineer Allen Dittenhofer, of the firm Remington, Vernick & Vena, presented Deacons Food Pantry representative Sue Baker with a $1,000 check in memory of Michael D. Vena, a principal partner in the firm who recently passed away.
The dinner-dance will feature oldies music presented by Spotlight on You, along with D.J. Ryan Galway, a buffet dinner, open bar and door prizes. Tickets to the event are $30.
The dinner-dance will be held May 19 at the Jamesburg Knights of Columbus Hall, Lincoln Avenue off Helmetta Road. All proceeds will benefit the Deacons Food Pantry.
