Registration to begin for library story times

The Monroe Township Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, will offer a variety of summer children's programs.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. on June 6, unless otherwise indicated.

"Baby Time Rhymes and Playtime," open to infants ages 6-12 months and their caregiver, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays, July 10, 17, 24, 31 and Aug. 7.

"Toddlin' Tots," for children ages 12-18 months with a caregiver, is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, July 10, 17, 24, 31 and Aug. 7.

"Wee Folk," a story time for children ages 18-24 months and their caregiver, will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays, June 22, 29, July 6, 13 and 20.

"Terrific Twos," open to children ages 24-36 months with a caregiver, will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, June 21, 28, July 5, 12, 19, or 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1 and 8.

"Mother Goose," stories, music and games for children ages 18-36 months and a parent, is set for 9:30, 10:30 or 11:30 a.m. on Fridays, June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Registration is not required.

"Preschool Story Time," open to children ages 3-5, will be held at 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1, 8, 15, or 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, June 28, July 5, 12, 19, Aug. 2 and 16.

"Starlight Express," an alternative to daytime story times for children ages 3-5, is set for 7 p.m. on Mondays, June 26, July 3, 10, 17, 31 and Aug. 7.

"Summer Stories," a story time for children ages 6-8, will offer "Animal Heroes: True Stories of Heroic Animals" at 11:30 a.m. on July 18, "Summer Mysteries" at 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, and "Summer Fun," at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 14.

"Music With Pat McKinley," a musical program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, is set for 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, June 6, 13, 20, 27, Aug. 15, 22 and 29. Registration is not required.

Bowne-Munro PTA

to sponsor car wash

The Bowne-Munro PTA will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to noon on June 10 in the school parking lot, 120 Main St., East Brunswick.

Cost is $5 for cars, $7 for sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and trucks.

Summer reading club, activities set at library

In-person registration will begin on June 19 for summer reading club and story time youth activities at the Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St. Telephone registration for story time will begin on June 20.

Library card holders ages 3-13 are invited to take part in "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales," the library's summer reading club. A reading log must be kept in order for participants to be eligible for weekly prizes and end-of-summer awards. The last day to log books will be Aug. 4.

Summer story times, open to children ages 3-8, will be offered on Tuesdays or Thursdays, June 27-Aug. 3.

A "Baby-sitting Basics" course for ages 11-18 is set for July 25, 26 and 27.

"Kids in Action," an interactive program designed to illustrate the importance and fun of physical exercise for youngsters age 3 and above, will be offered on Aug. 2. Call (732) 251-1515.

S.R. recreation offers trips to Yankee games

The South River Parks and Recreation Department is offering bus trips and tickets for the following baseball games:

+ June 9 - New York Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics;

+ Sept. 29 - New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays.

The buses will depart at 4:15 p.m. from the South River High School parking lot, Montgomery Street.

Cost is $60 per person, per trip. Prices include game admission and bus fare. Limit is four tickets per person for Yankee games.

Society Hill blood drive to benefit area hospitals

The Blood Center of New Jersey will sponsor a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 3 in the Society Hill Clubhouse, 400 Thames Drive, Old Bridge.

All donors will receive a free cholesterol test. A free continental breakfast, cookies and treats, coffee, tea and juice will be served.

Donors must be at least 18 years of age; 17-year-olds need parental permission. Participants must present a driver's license or other photo identification and know their Social Security number. Individuals may donate blood every 56 days.

Blood donations will aid area hospitals.

Friendly's event to raise funds for youth group

A Simpson United Methodist Church Youth Group Night is planned for 5-9 p.m. on June 5 at Friendly's, Ferry Road and Route 9, Old Bridge. Participants should tell their server they are there to support the Simpson Youth Group. The restaurant will then donate 15 percent of each supporter's total check to the youth group. All proceeds will go toward the cost of the group's summer mission trip.

O.B. church to sponsor Outdoor Flea Market

Cottrell Corners Community Church, 442 Cottrell Road, Old Bridge, will hold its annual Outdoor Spring Flea Market from for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 3.

The event will feature crafts, a flea market, vendors and baked goods. Proceeds will benefit the church building fund.

EBHS cheerleading boosters plan car wash

The East Brunswick High School (EBHS) Cheerleading Booster Club will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 10 at Irwin Elementary School, 71 Racetrack Road, East Brunswick. Rain date is June 11

Cost is $5 for cars, $7 for sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and trucks.

Pro-wrestling event to benefit firefighters

The Disabled Firefighters Fund and Sports Entertainment Group will sponsor a professional wrestling fundraiser beginning at 7:35 p.m. on June 3 at South River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1451, 31 Reid St. Proceeds will benefit the firefighters fund.

The event will feature wrestler Lex Luger in his first-ever appearance in a Central Jersey wrestling ring. Also on the card will be Extreme Championship Wrestling stars Matt Hyson ("Spike Dudley"), John Mahoney, Danny Doring, Simon Diamond and Dawn Marie, the Equalizer and New Jack, and World Wrestling Entertainment's Bastian Booger.

Student dancers to perform in concert

The School of Performing Arts Dance Department at the East Brunswick campus of Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools will present its annual spring concert, "In the End," at 7 p.m. on June 2 auditorium at the school, 112 Rues Lane.

The evening will begin with a performance of the Cou Cou, a traditional African dance from Guinea, and will continue with choreography by the student dance majors.

Approximately 15 dancers will open the show with the Cou Cou, performed to the live music of African drummer Dion Rivers. Material in an array of styles, including tap, ballet, hip-hop, jazz and modern dance, also will be performed. Several of the student choreographers' works will include video projections they created themselves, as well as music they composed using the sound editing system, Garage Band.

Chamber of Commerce sets health, fitness expo

The East Brunswick Regional Chamber of Commerce will present its second annual Health and Fitness Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 3 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 4 in the center court at Brunswick Square Mall, Route 18, East Brunswick. The event, sponsored by Satori Academy and Tiger Schulmann's Karate, will feature local vendors who will be on hand to provide the latest health-related news and information. Shoppers will also have the opportunity to take advantage of free health screenings and giveaways that will be offered throughout the day. Holocaust exhibit coming to library

The Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, will host a statewide traveling Holocaust exhibit, "Survival of the Human Spirit: Triumph Over Adversity," from June 17-July 6. An opening reception will be held at 1:30 p.m. on June 18 at the library.

Developed by the Center for Holocaust Studies at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, and made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, the exhibit consists of 29 panels featuring a group of Holocaust survivors associated with the center.

The exhibition also will be shown from Sept. 1-29 at the Ocean County Library, 101 Washington St., Toms River section of Dover; Nov. 1-30 at the Old Bridge Public Library, Route 516 and Cottrell Road; and Jan. 2-7 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Symmes Road, Manalapan.

The Center for Holocaust Studies at Brookdale Community College is an educational resource center. Its mission is education about historical issues of the Holocaust and genocide; elimination of racism, anti-Semitism and all forms of prejudice that damage society; and development of creative programs and activities regarding these crucial human issues. Church rummage sale to benefit Crisis Room

Aldersgate United Methodist Church will host its Church Indoor Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 9 in the white house next to the church, 568 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick.

Proceeds will go to the church's Crisis Room, which offers food, clothing and financial assistance to needy families in Middlesex County.

Woodbridge H.S. class of '60 to hold reunion

The class of 1960 of Woodbridge High School will hold a 45th reunion on June 17 at the Hilton Hotel Woodbridge, 120 Wood Ave., Iselin section of Woodbridge.

Cost is $75 per person. A buffet-style dinner will be served.

Public invited to dance to music of big-band era

The Imperial Dance Band will play music of the big-band era at a dance set for 7:30-11 p.m. on June 10 at the Imperial Music Center, 48 Appleby Ave., South River.

The event will feature dancing and light refreshments. The public is welcome.

Music of Mozart, Bach to fill Christ Church

The Christ Church Choir and the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra will present "A Pentecost Celebration: Music of Mozart and Bach" beginning at 7:30 p.m. on June 4 at Christ Church, 5 Paterson St., New Brunswick.

Soloists will include Erin Schneider and Diana Whitener, sopranos; Giulia Utz, alto; Wilfredo Coriano and Timothy Smith, tenor; and Frederick Fischer, bass.

Byzantine church to host rummage sale

St. Thomas the Apostle Byzantine Church, Rahway, will hold its annual Parish Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 3 in the parish center, 1407 St. George Ave.

The event will feature many one-of-a-kind items including collectibles and antiques. Household bargains, toys, infant items, books and electronics also will be available. The kitchen will be open all day. Breakfast and lunch will be offered.

Pancake Breakfast planned at legion post

Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Post No. 25, 4 JFK Blvd., Milltown, will host an All-You Can-Eat Pancake and Sausage Breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on June 4.
