The township of East Brunswick Division of Recreation and Community Services, the Arts Commission and the Visual Arts Celebration Committee will sponsor the township's fourth annual Fine Arts Festival, an outdoor, juried fine art and crafts show and sale, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 10 around the East Brunswick Municipal Pond, Ryders Lane. Rain date is June 11.
The event attracts more than 90 artists from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Original artwork and craft items will be on display and for sale. Offerings will include oils/acrylics; watercolors; mixed media; photography; sculpture; graphics/drawings/pastels; and fine handmade crafts including pottery, jewelry, accessories, clothing, weaving, mosaics, ceramics, turned-wood sculpture, woodcrafts and florals. Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded.
An added attraction at this year's show will be the Wheaton Village Glassblowers, who will offer demonstrations of traditional glassblowing techniques. Working at a portable furnace, the team will produce and sell finished pieces of hand-blown glass on site.
The East Brunswick Youth Council will sponsor a free craft corner, where youngsters will create their own artwork to take home. Free face-painting will be offered for youngsters. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Programs scheduled at Monroe Senior Center

Alfredo Franco of the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, New Brunswick, will discuss and display artwork from Germany's New Objectivity artists at 10:30 a.m. on June 13 at the center. The artists sought a new sobriety in art that criticized war, capitalism and patriotic rhetoric through artworks that often invoked the style of the German "Old Masters" of the Middle Ages. Judy Kalman will continue her discussion on making life easier with some recommended tips and techniques during "Your Life, Part 2" set for 11 a.m. on June 14 at the center. Advance registration is requested.
Art historian Maurice Mahler will celebrate the 400th birthday of Rembrandt in a program planned for 1 p.m. on June 14. A new film about an incident Rembrandt's life will be featured. Advance registration is requested.
"The Music of Irving Berlin" is set for 1:30 p.m. on June 15. Dr. William Wollman will discuss and perform many of Berlin's songs and present film clips from the composer's Broadway shows. Advance registration is requested.
A program titled "Andy Warhol: Art of the Masters" will take place at 2 p.m. on June 16. After a brief lecture, 15 registered participants will create their own masterpieces in Warhol's style using markers. In addition to registering in advance for the program, participants must obtain a project coupon (while supplies last) in order to participate in the project. Coupons are available upon request.
Dr. Jim Kane will present "Mays, Mantle and the Duke: New York Baseball in the 1950s" at 1:30 p.m. on June 19. Kane will share the story of Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Duke Snyder, highlighting their early years, their intense rivalries and their careers. Advance registration is requested.
Plaque unveiling scheduled in Jamesburg
The Jamesburg Historical Association will unveil a historical marker on the grounds of Buckelew Park at 2 p.m. on June 11. The marker, a gift to the association and the residents of Jamesburg from the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission, summarizes the history of the grounds and the legacy of James Buckelew, the borough's namesake.
The 1.75-acre park, located on Buckelew Avenue (Route 522, across from Dunkin' Donuts), is all that remains in the public trust of the more than 4,000-acre Buckelew estate. Lakeview, the historic 23-room Buckelew Mansion, is located within the park boundaries. The mansion, which was constructed between 1685 and 1870, now serves as Jamesburg's museum. The borough's residents entrusted the building's care and maintenance to the Jamesburg Historical Association in 1979. Following the unveiling ceremony, the mansion will be open for tours until 4 p.m.
Lakeview is open for public tours from 2-4 p.m. on the second and fourth Sundays of every month. Admission is free of charge; free-will donations are gratefully accepted. Group tours for 10 or more individuals are welcome by appointment.

Milltown rec offers trip, programs, pool badges
The Milltown Department of Recreation will offer several upcoming events.
All trips are open to residents and nonresidents.
Spaces are still available for the June 11 trip to the Showboat Casino, Atlantic City. The bus will depart at 9 a.m. from Milltown Borough Hall. Cost is $15 per person, with an $18 return in cash and a $5 food voucher.
Sales of borough pool badges, available to Milltown residents only, will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 8, 13, 14 and 16 at borough hall. Log on to www.milltownnj.org for all dates, times and fees. Swim lessons only are available for nonresidents and residents.
Registration is now going on for the Milltown Summer School-Age Child Care (SACC) program. A full-day summer schedule with a five-day or three-day option will be offered. The program is open to residents and nonresidents. Applications are available at borough hall.

Contributions sought
for vets monument fund
Donations are needed for the Combat Wounded Veterans Monument Fund of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 10. Funds are being raised to honor Middlesex County veterans of all wars who were combat wounded or killed in action.
Plans are for a monument to be placed on the corner of George Street and Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, in front of the Heldrich Center and across from the State Theatre. The monument will honor all those who have earned a Purple Heart, the oldest and only medal that honors all branches of the military.
Checks or money orders may be made payable to Chapter 10 Purple Heart Monument Fund and mailed to MOPH Chapter 10, c/o Commander Joseph Belardo, 527 O'Donohue Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
The contribution will entitle the donor to an invitation to the monument's dedication.
Space traveler to visit
The Chelsea at E.B.
Dr. Greg Olsen, the third private citizen to venture into outer space, will speak at The Chelsea at East Brunswick, 606 Cranbury Road, at 3:30 p.m. on June 13. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
In 2005 Olsen visited the International Space Station for seven days, traveled more than 3-million miles in space and completed more than 100 orbits of the Earth.
Olsen, an American scientist, inventor and entrepreneur, will show video of his stay on the space station and speak about his experiences in space and the extensive training he undertook in preparing for the mission. Main Street Kidsworks
will present 'Doodle'
The Sayreville Main Street Theatre Company will stage an original Kidworks production, "Doodle," at 1 p.m. on June 17 and noon and 3 p.m. on June 24 and 25 in the theater space at the Garden Friends, 3018 Bordentown Ave., Parlin section of Sayreville.
An all-American singalong for children, the production tells the tale of Doodle, who teams with his new friend Elliot the Eagle to show the town of Dependence the true meaning of the Fourth of July and the beauty of living in the United States of America.

Car wash will raise
funds for Heifer Project
The seventh- and eighth-grade classes of the First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 10 in the church parking lot, Main Street, across from Borough Hall.
Cost is $5 per car.
All proceeds will benefit the Heifer Project, designed to end hunger and poverty worldwide.
Corpus Christi plans
carnival for June 14-17
Corpus Christi School will sponsor a carnival from 5-9 p.m. on June 14 and 15, 5-10 p.m. on June 16, and 2-11 p.m. on June 17 on the school grounds, 80 David St., South River.

Walk-a-thon in O.B. will benefit St. Jude's
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will sponsor a Miracle Mile Walk-a-Thon beginning at 10 a.m. on June 24 at Carl Sandburg Middle School (formerly Old Bridge High School), Lombardi Field, Route 516. Registration is set for 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Sheryl Betti of Old Bridge is coordinating the event in memory of her mother, Lucille Mendizza, also of Old Bridge, who passed away in April.
Proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. The hospital, founded by entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962, is internationally recognized for its work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. St. Ambrose Carnival planned for June 20-24
The St. Ambrose School Carnival will be held from 6-11 p.m. June 20-22, 6 p.m. to midnight on June 23, and 5-10 p.m. on June 24 on the school grounds, Throckmorton Lane, off Route 9, Old Bridge.
The event will feature rides; games; a new international food court; desserts; nightly entertainment; a super 50/50; fireworks; and appearances by New York Giants Reggie Torbor (June 22) and David Tyree (June 23) and the New Jersey 101.5 Prize Patrol.
Bracelet nights, when participants pay one price ($21) and go on rides all night, will be June 22 and 24. The fireworks display is set for 9 p.m. on June 23.

Salon collects donations for ACS Relay for Life
The J.C. Penney Salon at Brunswick Square Mall, Route 18, East Brunswick, is holding a monthlong fundraiser through June 30 to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life.
For every dollar contributed to the cause, the salon will enter the donor's into a drawing to win a spa pedicure and spa manicure. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
In addition, the salon is raffling off a basket of salon hair products and store merchandise valued at more than $200. No purchase is necessary to enter the drawing. Entry forms are available at the salon.

The Widows and Widowers (WOWs) Chapter of Middlesex County West will hold an open social from 7-10:30 p.m. on June 11 at the Belarussian American Center, Whitehead Avenue, South River.
The June date is a departure from the group's regular schedule - socials are usually held on the first Sunday of every month.
Participants will celebrate Fathers Day and dance to the live music of Ed Goldberg.

Triple H sets youth scholarship auditions
Triple H Productions will hold auditions from 6:30-9 p.m. on June 12 and 14 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 221 MacArthur Ave., Sayreville, for students in grades 9-12 who would like to attend the theater group's summer theatre and/or film programs on scholarship. Vendor space is available at the annual Monroe Township Recreation Department Fourth of July Celebration set to begin at 5 p.m. on July 4 in Thompson Park.
