The Monroe Township Hoops Association will beholding its third annual golf outing at Concordia Golf Course in Monroe on July 31. The fee is $110 per golfer, which includes golf, a cart, food and beverages, and an awards dinner. The tournament will start at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The East Brunswick U8 girls recreation soccer team competed last weekend in the Sayreville Father's Day tournament, coming away undefeated and unscored upon. The girls, who have played together for only four weeks, exhibited superb team play in stifling their opponents. Team members are Daniela Bishop, Jaycie Buchalski, Laura Chwatel, Stacie Golin, Ghil Joseph, Kiarra Klemensits, Jackie LeSeur, Nicole LeSeur, Krissy Muniz, Renu Nargund, Alessia Ruggiero, Shoshana Stahl and Fiona Withum. The team is coached by Pat Farrell and Phil Peterson, and ably assisted by a positive group of parents.
The Monroe Wolverines Flag Football Program is taking applications for its in-house program, as well as its travel program for boys and girls ages 5 and 6. Registration will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon at the Monroe Community Center. Fee is $60 per child, with a $60 work bond per family. The Fourth and Goal Football Camp, for ages 7-15, will be held in Monroe from July 10-13, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Early registration fee is $100 by June 1. After June 1, the fee is $130 per camper. All campers receive a T-shirt, and should bring a lunch and drink. Sneakers and rubber cleats are recommended. All instructors are local GMC coaches. Victor Sorrento and Mikey Stryker combined scattering five hits, allowing one run as the Monroe Dodgers outlast the Yankees, 4-1, in the Monroe Township Baseball Association's Major Division championship game.. Sorrento allowed two hits in three innings (both to Jordan Jiminez), striking out eight. In the second inning, The Yankees' Jiminez doubled off Sorrento, but was thrown out attempting to score from second on a single by Josh Polefka. A spectacular throw from right-center field by Willie Wager, and relay throw by second baseman Justin Horowitz, nailed the runner at the plate, preserving the 0-0 tie. In the top of the fourth, the Yankees' Thomas Asciolla walked, Anthony Battaglia lined an RBI single and took second on the throw. That would be all the offense the Bombers could push across the plate.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Dodgers struck back. Nick Wolfson doubled to right, Mike Stryker walked, and Sorrento walked to load the bases. Nick Wolfson stole home to tie the game at 1. Willie Wager (1-for-2, RBI) smacked a single, scoring Stryker, before Justin Horowitz walked, and Michael Bash drew a bases-loaded RBI walk. The Dodgers led 3-1 after four innings. The Dodgers added a run in the fifth as Chris Brooks lined a two-out single up the middle. Wolfson singled and stole second, Mikey Stryker (1-for-1, two walks, RBI, run scored) lined an RBI single to right scoring Brooks. Stryker Struck out five in three innings, including the last batter of the game. The Dodgers finish the season with a record of 11-6, and won 10 of their final 11 games, including four playoff games to win the 2006 MTBA Major Division Championship.
