Library to host art exhibition, reception

Works of art by Necati Itez will be on display during regular hours, Sept. 5-30, in the W. Jane Strimple Meeting Room at the Milltown Public Library, 20 W. Church St.

Itez is a textile and interior designer who has been studying drawing, painting, ceramics and sculpture for the past 10 years.

An opening reception is planned for 3-5 p.m. on Sept. 5. The public is invited to meet the artist and ask him questions. Refreshments will be served.

HSA seeks crafters for craft show/bake sale

Crafters are sought for the St. Thomas the Apostle HSA annual Craft Show and Bake Sale set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the school auditorium, Route 18 south, Old Bridge.

Car wash to raise funds for SRHS Cheerleaders

South River High School (SRHS) Cheerleaders will sponsor a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Elks Lodge No. 2033, Main Street, South River.

Cost is $5 for cars, $7 for vans and trucks.

Proceeds from the event will help defer the cost of the cheerleaders' sneakers and uniforms.

Rosary society slates Giant Flea Market

St. Thomas Rosary Society, Old Bridge, will hold its 16th annual Giant Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 in St. Thomas the Apostle Church parking lot, Route 18 south, Old Bridge. Rain date is Sept. 23.

Golf outing to benefit Golden Bear Chargers

The Golden Bear Chargers (GBC) Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading organization, East Brunswick/Spotswood, will hold its second annual Golf Outing on Sept. 8 at Cream Ridge Golf Club, 181 Route 539. Shotgun start is set for 1:30 p.m.

Cost is $110 for each individual golfer, $425 for a foursome, $100 per hole sponsor, $50 for dinner only. All checks should be made payable to GBC.

E.B. cultural festival scheduled for Oct. 8

East Brunswick's annual Our Community Is Fair cultural festival, a celebration of the township's ethnic diversity, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the East Brunswick municipal pond, Ryders Lane. Rain date is Oct. 22.

The daylong event will feature continuous cultural entertainment, a free craft project for children, free face painting, an ethnic food court, craft vendors, cultural exhibits and more.

Limited space remains for craft vendors and exhibitors.

Our Community Is Fair is sponsored by the Township of East Brunswick Division of Recreation and the East Brunswick Human Relations Council.

Admission to the festival is free of charge. The public is welcome.

Mother's club schedules meeting, seeks members

The next meeting of the Monroe Township Mother's Club will be held at 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Monroe Township Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road.

Monroe Library Friends to hold Sept. 20 meeting

The Friends of the Monroe Township Public Library will host its annual meeting Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the library, 4 Municipal Plaza.

Library director Irene Goldberg will be in attendance to present the facility's expansion plans, which include larger sections in the adult, children's, circulation and staff areas.

Nativity of Our Lord will host blood drive

New Jersey Blood Services will conduct a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 185 Applegarth Road, Monroe.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age (17-year-olds need a parent's permission letter), weigh at least 110 pounds and may not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Individuals above age 76 may donate if they meet the criteria and present a letter from their physician. The procedure is done by a specially trained technician and takes approximately 10-12 minutes. Donors, who will have a brief medical exam prior to donating, will rest afterward and will be given refreshments. Participants should bring official identification. Platelets will also be collected at the drive.

Reservations due Sept. 5 for Unico dinner event

The Unico National Italian/American Service Organization, Old Bridge Area Chapter, will hold its induction of officers on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at Café Romeo, Route 516 and Gaub Road, Old Bridge.

The event will include the presentation of plaque and gavel and a membership drive. Unico National will be in attendance. Cost is $32 for a complete dinner.

Borough to sponsor 9/11 observance

Members of the Spotswood community will gather at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Spotswood 9/11 Memorial, Summerhill Road, to observe the fifth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center.

The ceremony will include a wreath-laying by a borough resident and 9/11 Memorial Committee member whose brother, a New York City firefighter, gave his life in the disaster.

The public is invited. Participants are urged to bring a folding chair.
