The Central Jersey Lightning 10U fastpitch softball team concluded its summer season with another strong performance in Roselle Park last weekend, earning them another second-place finish. After defeating the nationally ranked Diamond girls from Bellville in bracket play, 3-1, on Saturday, they lost a heartbreaker in the finals, 3-2, in the last inning to the Bellville squad. En route to reaching the finals the girls amassed a whopping 48 runs and allowing only one run up to the final. Outstanding pitching from Micaela McSpadden and Claire Preston produced three shutouts along the way. From top to bottom the girls pounded the ball all weekend with two home runs by centerfielder Nicole Razzano and one home run by shortstop Marylynn Muldowney, along with a key bases-clearing triple by McSpadden in the victory over the Diamond girls. Defensive was the strong point of this team all summer, led by the great catching of Sam Mottola and Hayley Mikulak, who overcame the heat all weekend. Solid infield performances all weekend by infielders Jess Dudra, Sara Acevedo, Muldowney and Hunter Fesckovics, along with the outfield play of Jacquie Neminski, Siobhan Tracy and Razzano were enough to finish up the season with yet another trophy. For the season the CJL girls finished up with a record of 30-13-1. The team was coached by Lou Mottola, Gayle and Jill Dudra, Mike McSpadden and their very own "Mr. Misty" Bob Mikulak. The Manager was Dave Razzano.
