Moth Night, one more time
EAST BRUNSWICK - Those who missed the first Moth Night have one more chance this year to learn about those and other insects in the township's Butterfly Park.
But they'll have to act fast. Moth Night No. 2 takes place tonight.
The township's Environmental Commission scheduled the event, which takes place from 9 to 11 p.m. in the Rues Lane park, based on the success of the Moth Night that was held Aug. 22. That event was attended by about 50 people.
"This will likely be the last one of the season," said commission member David Moskowitz. "The focus will be on the moths of the woods."
The commission, which believes there are about 2,000 species of moths in the park, will set up a mercury vapor light and black light along the woodland trail. It will also use a mixture of fermented rum, beer and brown and white sugar to attract moths to the trees.
"The weather is supposed to be at or above 80 [degrees], so conditions should be perfect to find a nice diversity of insects," Moskowitz said. He suggests that people bring a flashlight and camera.
