The St. Bartholomew Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes will sponsor a Comedy Night Dinner beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 in St. Bart's Parish Hall, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
The fundraiser will feature three comedians, a buffet dinner and dessert.

worker's medical costs
The Friends of John Droppa will hold a Tricky Tray fundraiser beginning at 4 p.m. on Oct. 1 at Holy Trinity Parish Center, Manalapan Road, Helmetta. Doors will open at 2 p.m.
John Droppa, a postal worker in Monroe, is battling cancer.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to his family to help defray costs incurred due to his illness.

Pulaski Day Dinner to honor grand marshal
The annual Middlesex County Pulaski Day Dinner-Dance will be held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 88 Jackson St., South River. Honoree will be Bozenna Zelazowski, Middlesex County parade grand marshal.
The event will feature live music by Dystans Muzyke. Cost is $30 per person.

St. Stan's Oktoberfest scheduled for Sept. 23
St. Stanislaus Kostka HSA will sponsor its annual Oktoberfest from 2-9 p.m. on Sept. 23 on the St. Stan's School grounds, 225 MacArthur Ave., Sayreville. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place 1-8 p.m. on Sept. 24.
Highlights will include games, wheels, rides, entertainment, a pumpkin patch, 50/50 raffles, a beer garden and food. Youngsters will have the opportunity to pay one price and go on rides from 2 to 6 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. The Firehouse Polka Band will provide music from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
A Friday Night Fright Hayride is set for 7-10 p.m. on Sept. 22.

Ride, walk, stroll to aid
Rett Syndrome panel
The 2006 Ride, Walk and Stroll for Rett Syndrome, a 7- to 61-mile bike-a-thon and 1-mile walk/stroll, is planned for Oct. 1 at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown. The ride will begin at 8 a.m.; the 1-mile walk and stroll will start at 11 a.m.

Space available at Hadassah Vendor Fair
East Brunswick Hadassah will hold a Vendor Fair, in conjunction with its annual Membership Gala Dinner, beginning at 5 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Vendor sales will continue throughout the evening. Vendor cost is $25 for the first table, $15 for additional tables. Raffle donations are also invited.

Motorcycle, car show to benefit rescue squad
The fourth annual Electra-Glide in Blue Motorcycle and Custom Car Show, featuring police motorcycles and officers, will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Sept. 25 on West Railroad Avenue, near the Jamesburg Elks Lodge. Setup is planned for 5:30-6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Jamesburg Democratic Organization.
Proceeds will go to the Jamesburg First Aid Squad. Donations also will be collected on site.
The show is free of charge to entrants. Suggested donation is $5 for each adult attending the show. Children are encouraged to attend.
Trophies will be awarded to all motorcycle officers, best police patrol unit and to custom bikes and cars. DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) cars are welcome.
Milltown GOP to host Antique Appraisal
The Milltown Republican Organization will hold an Antique Appraisal from 1-4 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the Milltown Senior Citizen Center, Violet Terrace.
Alan Snyder will appraise valuables, collectibles and attic treasures. Fee is $8 per item appraised. The event also will include a bake sale. Refreshments will be served.

Auxiliary schedules Oct. 21 trip to casino
The Brookview Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor an Oct. 21 bus trip to the Showboat Casino, Atlantic City.
The bus will depart at 9 a.m. from the Dunhams Corner Road Firehouse.
Cost is $25 per person, with a $15 return in cash and a $5 casino food credit.

Surgery alternatives to be focus of lecture
The Raritan Bay Medical Center Fall Women's Lecture Series will kick off with a discussion titled "Alternatives to Hysterectomy" at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 in Centennial Hall at the hospital's Perth Amboy division, 530 New Brunswick Ave.
Guest presenter will be obstetrician and gynecologist Steven Goldberg, M.D. The program will address the causes of abnormal uterine bleeding and some of the newest methods to treat the disorder.
The Sept. 25 program is the first in a new monthly women's lecture series. Future topics will include the human papilloma virus (HPV) and vaccine, managing menopausal changes, and healthy living during the holidays.

Brandeis Women to explore African life
Contemporary life in Africa will be the topic at the next meeting of the Brandeis University National Women's Committee, set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center. A chapter member will present her travel videos of Zimbabwe, Botswana, Nambia and Victoria Falls, Cape Town, South Africa.
The public is invited. Admission is free of charge.
The Brandeis University National Women's Committee raises funds for the libraries at Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass. It is not necessary to be a graduate of the university to become a member of the organization.
