The fourth annual Camp Daisy Walk in the Park and Halloween Carnival will begin at noon on Oct. 29 in Bicentennial Park, Riva Avenue, East Brunswick. The event, which is sponsored by the Daisy Association, will raise funds to support existing recreation programs and to develop new programs for people with disabilities.
Walk registration and check-in will start at noon. Registration cost is $25 per family, $10 per individual. Free T-shirts, goodie bags and water will go to the first 300 youngsters to register. The walk will begin at 1 p.m., following a path approximately 1-mile long, winding through Bicentennial Park.
The Halloween Carnival will feature food, clowns, face-painting, music, pumpkin-painting, a costume contest, game booths, a magician and balloon sculptor and trick-or-treating.
All proceeds will benefit the Daisy Association and the Daisy Recreation programs for children and young people with disabilities.

Watershed panel offers
chemical-free products
The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership conducts an Organic (Chemical-Free) Fertilizer and Cleaning Material Sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at the group's headquarters building, 85 Washington Ave., Milltown.
The nonprofit organization, dedicated to the protection of the Lawrence Brook Watershed, seeks to encourage area residents to avoid the use of toxic garden materials and cleaning products. Data shows that contaminated stormwater runoff and chemical lawn fertilizers are significant contributors to elevated levels of chemicals in the drinking water supply.

Youth activities scheduled at South River Library
The South River Library, 55 Appleby Ave., will offer a variety of upcoming youth programs.
Three movies will be screened. "Scary Godmother" is set for 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 28. "Monster House" is planned for 10:15 a.m. on Nov. 4. Youngsters are invited to go "Over the Hedge" at 10:15 a.m. on Nov. 6.
"The Art of Henna," appropriate for older children and teens, will be offered at noon on Nov. 6. Participants will learn about the intricate art of Indian body-painting. There will be a demonstration and a hands-on opportunity to receive a tattoo of one's choice. Call the library to reserve a space.
"Libraries Help Tie the Community Together," a program to help celebrate Children's Book Week, is planned for 7 p.m. on Nov. 16. All ages are welcome.
Participants will design and decorate triangular fabric with their favorite place to visit or thing to do in South River. Light snacks will be served. All pieces will be tied together to form a holiday tree.
"Bow-Wow Powwow," open to young readers, is planned for 7 p.m. on Nov. 21. Youngsters will choose a book and read aloud to Bowie, a golden Labrador and certified therapy dog, who sits, listens and wags his tail, offering positive encouragement to beginning readers.
Story times take place year-round at the library on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 11 a.m. for toddlers ages 1 1/2-3 years with caregiver, and 4:15 p.m. for children ages 3-5 years. New participants always welcome.

Pasta dinner to benefit families in need
The Spotswood High School Touchdown Club will hold a Pasta Dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 2 in the cafetorium at the high school, Summerhill Road. Seatings are set for 5:30, 6, 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m.
The dinner will benefit the Charger Star program. Three Charger Star families will receive all proceeds from the event.
Cost is $10 for adults, $7 for students, $4 for children under age 12.
Donations may be made and tickets may be purchased at upcoming high school games. Tickets also may be reserved for pick up at the door by mailing an order to SHS Touchdown Club, P.O. Box 53, Spotswood, NJ 08884.

Harvest Celebration on tap at O.B. church
Calvary Chapel Old Bridge (CCOB) will present its annual Harvest Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the church parking lot, 123 White Oak Lane, Old Bridge.
Highlights will include inflatable games, balloon animals, face-painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, an obstacle course, children's music, a puppet show, a magic show and contests with prizes. Hot dogs, hamburgers, desserts, popcorn and hot apple cider also will be available.
Admission is free of charge.
The Harvest Celebration was inspired by families within the fellowship who wanted to enjoy the fruits of the season in thanks for its abundance.

Flea market, bake sale on tap at Parlin church
Messiah Lutheran Church, 3091 Bordentown Ave., Parlin section of Sayreville, will hold an Indoor Flea Market and Youth Group Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 4.
Flea market proceeds, which will be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, will go to offset the church's new hymnal fund.
Proceeds from the youth group bake sale will be used for expenses associated with the group's upcoming Senior High Servant Trip to Philadelphia.

Columbiettes' 'Think Pink Party' Oct. 29
The St. Bartholomew Columbiettes will hold its first "Think Pink Party" and "Laugh, Love and Live" luncheon Oct. 29 from 2-5 p.m. at the church hall at St. Bartholomew's Church, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick.
The event is open to all women, and attendee are asked to wear a pink outfit to celebrates the lives of women that have suffered from breast cancer. Tickets are $25 each, with proceeds benefiting the Middlesex County Chapter of the American Cancer Society's "Look Good Feel Better" program.

Halloween Oldies Dance on tap in Old Bridge
A Halloween Oldies Dance is planned for 8 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 28 at Knights of Columbus Council No. 4815, 61 Pine St., Old Bridge.
The event will feature dancing to the music of the '50s and '60s. Sandwiches, beer, soda, coffee and dessert will be served. Costumes are optional.

Concert on the beach on for Sunday in O.B.
A concert featuring the bands Parkway Soul and Yasgur's Farm will be held Oct. 29 on the beach in the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, beginning at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
The free event is sponsored by the Township of Old Bridge, the Laurence Harbor First Aid Squad and the Middlesex County Parks and Recreation Department. In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the St. Lawrence Parish Center, 120 Laurence Parkway in Laurence Harbor.
Local event to focus on
youth and environment
The New Jersey Public Interest Research Group's Water Watch will sponsor an Environmental Awareness Day Oct. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 85 Washington Ave.
The day is geared toward youths and their families, and focuses on the importance of being active stewards of the environment at a young age.
Activity tables will cover lessons on clean water, clean energy, conservation, pollution and other issues, with hands-on and interactive activities, according to Kristin Elia, campus Water Watch organizer at Rutgers University's Cook and Douglass campuses.
Community members will be able to drop off old electronics to be recycled as well

S.R. Halloween Parade
scheduled for Oct. 30
South River Parks and Recreation will hold its annual Halloween Parade from 7-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the gym at South River Elementary/Middle School, Johnson Place.
The event is open to South River residents in preschool-fifth grade.

Evening at restaurant to aid school's music program
The Monroe Township High School Music Parents will sponsor a Family Dine-In or Takeout Night 4-8 p.m. Nov. 17 at D&T Pizza-Subs Restaurant, Concordia Shopping Center, 1600 Perrineville Road.
Diners should tell their server and the cashier that they are at the restaurant to support MTHS Music. D&T will donate 10 percent of the evening's proceeds to the school.

E.B. will sponsor free rabies clinic on Nov. 4
The township of East Brunswick will hold a free rabies clinic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the Public Works Garage, 4 Harts Lane, East Brunswick. Cats only will be vaccinated from 11 a.m. to noon. Cats and dogs will be vaccinated from noon to 3 p.m.
Cat owners must use a carrier. Dogs must be on a leash. Dog and cat licenses will not be issued.
The state mandates that all dogs and cats must be vaccinated to ensure a safer environment.

Spotswood to impose
curfew for Oct. 30, 31
Mayor Barry H. Zagnit recently announced that the borough of Spotswood will continue its past practice of imposing a 9 p.m. curfew on Oct. 30 (Mischief Night) and Oct. 31 (Halloween). The curfew will apply to all individuals age 16 and under.
The order is designed to protect younger children as well as to help prevent serious acts of vandalism similar to those that have occurred in past years.
Police Chief Karl Martin has assigned extra patrols to ensure enforcement of the curfew.

Cultural Alliance Fest
coming to South River
The South River Municipal Alliance and the South River Cultural Arts and Heritage Commission will hold their first Cultural Alliance Festival from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 28 in Edward A. Grekoski Park, off Whitehead Avenue (formerly Bissett's Pond). The event will be held rain or shine.
The festival will feature rides, food, games, local talent, music, free pumpkin-paining and more. Participants will have the opportunity to purchase $5 bracelets and go on rides all day.

Caregiving to be topic
at Oct. 28 workshop
A workshop titled "The ABC's of Caregiving" will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 28 at 3186 Route 27, Suite 201, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick.
The program is designed to help caregivers be aware of when to intervene, how to intervene, the resources that are available and how to take care of themselves in the process.
