Finance committee chairman did not do the math

Our elected officials need to be honest with the residents they serve. In an article in the Oct. 26 issue of the Sentinel ("Familiar Faces on Ballot for Borough Council Seats"), Council President Kevin Bosworth stated that taxes have only gone up 6 points in the last five years. This is simply not true.

Here are the facts. Our municipal tax rate is up more than 9 points in the last three years alone (2003: 70 points; 2006: 79 points). This represents a 13 percent increase in municipal tax charges on our residents.

Does the chairman of our finance committee not know the facts about taxes in Milltown? Or is he trying to hide from his record of consistent tax increases by lying about it? Either way, this is very disappointing from one of our elected officials.
