Residents ignore leaf-disposal rules, create unsafe conditions

Why is it that East Brunswick residents are so concerned with having blue-ribbon schools that provide a top-notch education, yet they can't seem to read and follow basic directions when it comes to leaf collection?

The township has spent time and money on educating the residents as to the proper way to dispose of leaves, and yet many residents completely ignore these instructions. Loose leaves are piled in the street weeks before they are scheduled to be picked up, causing unsafe driving conditions and violating new state environmental laws.

On Sullivan Way parents bringing their children to school will find limited parking space now that the residents on that street have decided to ignore the town and pile leaves almost a month before they are to be picked up. Should we have snow in December, snow plows will be throwing mountains of leaves onto sidewalks and lawns as they did last year.

Perhaps next year the town will finally decide (like other neighboring towns) to stop picking up loose leaves, and people will have no choice but to bag them.
