      E.B. Library announces closings, programs

      The East Brunswick Public Library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, will close Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. and be closed all day Jan. 1 for the New Year’s holiday.

      The library will celebrate Puppetry Month during February and the Friends of the Library’s Phyllis Noar Puppetry Festival will present two performances and a puppet-making workshop during the month. Tickets to all events are $2 each and go on sale Jan. 2. Tuckers’ Tales Puppet Theatre will present “Trickster Tales” for children age 3 and older Feb. 11 at 2 p.m., Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets will present “Animalia” for ages 4 an older Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. Tuckers’ will also hold a puppet-making workshop for children age 5 and older Feb. 11 at 3:30 p.m., with tickets $3 each.

      New programming begins at the library with family game nights Fridays from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 5. The Jan. 12 event is “byo” Scrabble. Attendees should bring a deck of cards Jan. 19 for a card party, and a Monopoly set for the Jan. 26 event. A program on scrapbooking will be Jan. 7 and 14 from 3-4:30 p.m. A knitting program will be Jan. 9, 16 and 23; and Feb. 6, 13 and 20 from 7-8 p.m. (beginners) and 8-9 p.m. (advanced). A program exploring the subconscious mind will be Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.

      The book discussion group will examine “Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m., and Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. All adults are invited to participate, and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call Claudia Link at (732) 390-6772 or visit www.ebpl.org.

      The library has announced for the first time in its 40-year history, effective in January it will be open until 9 p.m. Fridays-Sundays in addition to Mondays-Thursdays. According to library director Carol Nersinger, patrons have expressed a desire for longer hours, especially on weekends. For more information, call the library at (732) 390-6761.
