E.B. Student Services offers Parent University
EAST BRUNSWICK - In celebration and recognition of National School Counseling Week, the Public Schools Student Services Department will present Parent University, a series of workshops for parents beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Churchill Junior High School, 18 Norton Road, East Brunswick.
Participants will choose from two keynote presentations. Detective Kevin Zebro of the East Brunswick Police Department and the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will speak on "Cyber Bullying and Internet Safety."
A presentation by attorney Peter H. Lederman will feature a discussion on "Parental Responsibilities and Liabilities When Teenagers Host a Party," which will underscore the liabilities that parents face when, even unknowingly, a party with alcohol or drugs is held in their home.
Following the keynote presentations, parents of children in kindergarten through 12th grade will select from 10 workshops. Presenters are members of the Student Services Department who will speak or lead discussions on a variety of topics including "Exploring Parent-Child Communication," "Drug Awareness" and "Preparing Your Child for the College Search." For a complete list of workshops, log on to the district Web site at www.ebnet.org.
Parents of students attending East Brunswick Public Schools may register online at the district Web address. Registration for the 10 workshops will be on a first-come basis, with only 25 participants per workshop. Sign up is requested by 4 p.m. on Jan. 26.
